Gardenburger Riblets

Are these any good?

I bought them a couple weeks ago at the grocer and was going to eat them that night. I wanted to try them cause I had a craving for BBQ but didnt want to eat pork or anything made with a ton of artificial smoke flavor poured on them (Daves BBQ).

Well I couldnt find them when I went to go make them.

BUT this morning I found them in the kitchen cupboard instead of the freezer where they were supposed to be. falloff

so should I buy them again?

I don't trust it lol Never actually tried them but I have yet to try a veggie product that can get the fake chicken flavor/texture right. Rib-esque seems like it would be downright GROSS ill

Why not make some fancy bbq sauce & put it on grilled veggies or something? shrug

Good luck... but the fact that they ended up in the cupboard & not the freezer is the universe telling you not to eat that shit now or ever lol
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

eh, it's all a matter of what you're used to. It's like switching from regular to diet soda, once you get used to one, the other tastes nasty.
I personally could NOT eat a chicken nugget-type thing to save my life right now, but gimme some morningstar farms veggie buffalo wings and I could eat the whole box.

lol

I crave fish sticks (as we call them here) about once a year. Other than that - BLEH! And I'm even a little disgusted with myself while eating them.

Except I think I had some decent ones when I ate with you one night in Sheffield. Before we went to the movie...

I guess it's about finding the right one (I like a lot of veggie products/meat substitutes). But all the chicken ones I tried (several) were just bad. Tasted like cardboard, they weren't right. So I stopped trying & stick to the more basic patties - black bean & mushroom lovers from Morning Star Farms are my fave. smile

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riblets

A riblet is the usually boneless meat from the end of a rib, sometimes referred to as a rib tip. Riblets can be produced from beef, lamb, or veal, but the term is most often applied to pork rib tips. The tips are trimmed from the lower ribs when cutting a St. Louis-style rack or when shaping a top loin rack of ribs. They are meaty and flavorful, but smaller and less attractive than whole ribs. Riblets were first popularized commercially in the U.S. by the restaurant chain Applebee's.

target has a pretty good price on boca/gardenburger/morningstar farms stuff, too. nod

i think the riblets have a fine enough texture, but my problem is that there's way too much sauce. there's no escape from it! i wish the riblets would be packaged separately from the sauce, and we could just work all that out for ourselves as we prepare em. but they don't. alas.

so yeah, mock riblets are kind of like imago's dvd collection where i'm concerned: way too saucy for me and there's no way to enjoy yourself without getting your fingers all nasty.

It would be nice if the sauce was on the side cause I always feel like I have a lot left over, but at least its a yummy sauce.

I've never seen them at my Target, but I'll definitely look tonight heart

I have a solution!!

If you overcook them a bit the riblets actually absorb more of the sauce, making them even more delectable. The sauce that is left is thickened and can be used for dipping.
