Say you need something like a power washer to clean off your flag stones, or a steamer to remove some wall-paper.
Or an air-mattress for a guest staying over a few days.
Is it wrong to got the store and buy it then take it back before your time lapses on the receipt?

don't people do this with clothes? I knew someone who use to do that all the time and the store sent them a letter saying they could no longer shop at any of their stores.

I think it's actually illegal to 'borrow' items like this. But no one can prove you had that intention, unless you repeat it a few too many times.
