My very good friend in L.A. suckered me into overcoming this fear of the Deep Ocean by inviting me down to Vero Beach this spring for the Dodgers last training camp there. I was like...sure I'll come down...then he says...Good...YOU CAN NOW GO DIVE WITH ME!!! And gives me links to getting PADI TRAINING...

SHIT!!!

Dude, don't be a pussy! I've completed my Open Water PADI-Certfication just last weekend at the Similan Island, Thailand.....it's fucking awesome!

I don't think anyone was confident of swimming in the ocean after Jaws came out! lol They had this big Scuba Expo here in San Pedro and I was all geeked up to go until they told me I would be diving by the suicide cliffs. The problem was the sea lions that swim through there. The water is murky as hell and all I would need is one of those suckers swimming by me or bumping me for me to lose it completely. It's bad enough when they jump up on the rocks out of no where chasing food or sunning themselves. I agree with Dex. CLEAR WATER where you can see for a hundred yards around you. You can do it DEX!!!

My man told me during an instructional dive the water was indeed murky and a big obscure "something" was circling them and one of his students panicked and had to be calmed down while this "thing" was still circling. She wanted to go up so bad but she held it together and it turned out it was indeed a sea lion.

I don't think I could EVER dive with limited visibility.

Whap!!

Is there a lot of visibility at Vero Beach? All I know is that all the beaches that I've been to in Cali have lots of vegetation. I am also afraid of not being able to see what lies beneath.....

You'll be fine. I've been wanting to do this for a while. Maybe soon.

You will be fine...if you are a strong swimmer, it will be no problem. I got certified when I lived in Sarasota, but can no longer dive because of an inner ear issue.

I am a very good swimmer...that is not what I am afraid of...I am afraid of things five times my size that can move five times faster than me....LOL!!
