I saw something disturbing yesterday... (true story)

My family and I were having a nice day at the Mall of America yesterday and were on our way out when I glanced out the skyway window to see a plastic sheet covering a body surrounded by a large pool of blood.

Obviously the person was dead, but what had happened troubled me. Apparently this person had gone up to the top floor of the parking deck and had jumped.....in front of hundreds of innocent strangers.

The image was burned in to my brain....but there is always a jackass that has to make things even more bizaar...a guy....pushing a baby carriage, was taking pics of the body with his cell phone.... disbelief

I'll tell you the thing that bothers me the most about this....besides for my kids witnessing this....was that this guy....a stranger likely to all that were present felt it necessary to include us in his death.... fucking people....I do not condone suicide by any means...but if you're gonna do it...have the fucking common decency to exclude those who have and want nothing to do with it....

Last week my uncle died from a heart attack. He passed out and died in his hallway. When my aunt got around to calling everyone, we all decided to go over there. But what we didnt know was that his body was still there in the hallway. The coroner hadnt moved him yet. An image of a dead body is horrible.

So sorry u had to see that Ken hug

some suiciders are evil, like the ones that take out other cars of people when they decide to veer off and end it all.

hug Thanks Steph....sorry about your uncle.... as I was getting in to my truck I actually felt weak in the knees like I was gonna pass out or something. I work in hospitals and have for almost 20 years and have seen many many dead bodies in all kinds of conditions... it never gets easier for me for some reason.

sad

That is awful. Maybe the person was hoping that someone would stop him. That is why he chose such a public place.

I don't know.....sooo sad.

That is awful. I feel for bad for the ones you had to witness such a thing. And I feel bad for the person who did this to themselves. I have to wonder..what was so wrong in their lives they felt suicide was their only option.

I am sorry your kids had to see such a thing!

This whole situation upsets Moni very much! sad

2 months ago this same thing happened right outside of my office window..

I thought to myself what has happened in this man's life that caused him to want to end it this way..

My compassion was on high that day.

When I had worked as a security guard in a highrise condo building along Bayshore drive here, a man who was dying of AIDS jumped from the top floor on to the poolside area. There were families who saw this happen.

I'm totally not ragging on his experience, as we all have issues we work through, and all of us have our weaknesses, but I remember wondering why he didn't choose the back side of the building which was easily accessible and private.

The entire thing was very gruesome and sad. Luckily I started a couple of weeks after the incident so only heard about it through word of mouth, but it left quite an impression on me, because I had always told myself that if I suffered from a terminal illness, I'd take myself out--mostly not to drag others through the experience, and to minimize prolonged suffering. But that incident brought it home to me. I kept thinking, if I were to do it, how would I do it? how would I try to convey to others my reasons, and how would they react?
I still can't say that if I got a terminal illness or Alzheimers or something like that, that I would not contemplate it--but I can say that I'd be very sensative to others when making my decision.

That is an awful story. Things like this break my heart. And I get so mad at people who say, "people who take their own lives are weak" Suicide is a subject that is very close to my heart, and it just makes me ache when I hear of such things. sad

Unfortunately they are old enough to not only remember but to ask very direct questions as to what happened and why.... I think the only approach to this matter is to redirect their attention from death to "possible" injury and stay completely away from the suicide stuff.... they don't need to know the specifics any more than I did...

it's true, but for some reason people that want to commit suicide send out all sorts of signals that someone wouldn't recognize until after they past away. This guy obviously had problems and couldn't work through them. It's sad and the way he handled it is horrible, but such is life.

I'd probably faint if I had to witness a scene like that barf
