Everyone I know that drinks diet drinks seems to drink a lot more of it than they normally would. I have read too many scary things about them and they used to give me migraines so I try to avoid at all cost. Though in saying that there are many drinks here that do not say diet on the label but when you read the fine print it says aparatame Anyways..I have cut back on the sugar that I add to my tea and I am trying to cut out in other areas of my diet. Thanks for the suggestions. I hear you, migraines are an awful side effect You're right, most diet drinks have aspartame but I tend to stick w/ Hansen's b/c they use Splenda. As far as consuming lots of them, those people probably eat more food (just guessing) b/c they feel they can since they're sacrificing calories w/ a diet drink (i.e., folks who order a double whopper & fries w/ a diet coke - bitch you STILL in the drivethrough!!! )... But diet drinks CAN absolutely help b/c the calories don't register in your body - so swapping 2 regular sodas for 2 diet sodas is a savings of about 240 calories at least. Add that up over a week/month The trick is to swap the beverage without adding more food or bad food to your daily intake... I've never been much of a soda person, but was a juice lover I'm down to one small glass of juice a day which was HARD & I may or may not drink one diet soda a day (but I've never had the migrains you've experienced). Another alternative to soda is diet juices or sports drinks. Propel has lots of flavors & uses sucralose, not aspartame. It's 25 calories per bottle, vs. 120 per can of regular soda... I'mma shut up now Good luck w/ your plan whatever it turns out to be! . [Edited 1/8/08 5:01am] Actually...that isn't always the case. For some people, just the sweet taste of artificial sweeteners is enough to produce an insulin response. (Many people also have the same issue with caffeine.) What that means is that, even though you aren't actually eating sugar, your body thinks you are and is responding accordingly. If I consume something with aspartame, I might just as well have sugar (which tastes better) because I'm going to crash an hour or two later, anyway. I do not have that problem with stevia. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I have heard that about Aspartame as well. I have also heard that it makes you thirsty therefore you consume more of it. Bad stuff... I will stick with the real thing I will just cut back.

It also messes with your serotonin levels. Ever craved chocolate after you had a Diet Coke? That's because the aspartame lowered your serotonin levels...and chocolate contains a compound that mimics the effects of serotonin. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. It makes me mad that they put that stuff in everything these days.

Naturally fermented cabbage has a high sulfur content, which is very good for the complexion. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

sauerkraut? Yes - but keep in mind that not all sauerkraut is naturally fermented. Either make it yourself (it's super easy to do) or look for a brand that says just cabbage and salt (or cabbage, salt and lactobacillus culture) on the list of ingredients. No vinegar.
