just lower your calories intake, and drink lots of green tea to increase your metabolisms. and walk 30 minutes 3-4 times a week. i lose up to 7 kgs within 2 months that way. I drink lots of green tea, usually daily but I have to add some sugar. I use unrefined, unbleached but I still need some sugar and I refuse to use artificial stuff. We are starting to do hour long walks now, weather permitting. I agree, I cannot stick to a diet program, makes me crazy. The sugar kills it though. Unless you're just dead set against the artificial stuff I'd use it until I lost what I wanted to lose (believe it or not you get used to the taste) & once I hit maintenance phase, creep back into real sugar BUT sacrifice something else to compensate. Or if you can't let go of the real sugar, go as easy as you can on it (ween yourself down to the smallest possible amount) & find somewhere else in your diet to cut calories. . I don't know about losing weight, but I love this! When I was living at home way back when my mother used to make it and I couldn't stop eating it. It'd sit there in a pan on the stove and only get better the longer she kept it. That stuff is addictive!

[Edited 1/8/08 2:52am] I will not compromise a few pounds just to use artificial sweeteners, besides, I do not believe that they actually help ppl lose weight. Everyone I know that drinks diet drinks seems to drink a lot more of it than they normally would. I have read too many scary things about them and they used to give me migraines so I try to avoid at all cost. Though in saying that there are many drinks here that do not say diet on the label but when you read the fine print it says aparatame Anyways..I have cut back on the sugar that I add to my tea and I am trying to cut out in other areas of my diet. Thanks for the suggestions.

Cabbage soup diet?! No no no no no!
Eating lots of ONE type fo food is bad, whether it is McDonald's, pizza, chocolate or cabbage... If nothing else, you are going to get bored bored bored and give up after a week - I know I would. To lose weight and get fit: Exercise more and cut out the crap from your food intake. You don't need to be ultra-strict, but you know when you eat a chocolate bar every day it is bad for you, so leave it as a treat, say once a week. If you exercise enough you can make small changes in diet without having to eat rabbit food all the time. The main ingredient in a good diet is will power, simple as that - just get off your ass and exercise. And I speak as someone who needs to take his own advice more than anyone who may be reading this! This is not an exit

Luckily I rarely eat fast food, I think it is just a difference in the foods I eat now as compared to what I used to eat before I moved here. We are going to walk more and I need to get back into my yoga. It is not so much weight that I struggle with it is just that I was toned not too long ago and now it has turned soft.

I don't, I'm afraid. I know my mother did quite well on the diet though, but she was taking lots of supplements and was doing pilates and stuff too. Thanks for the suggestions. I hear you, migraines are an awful side effect You're right, most diet drinks have aspartame but I tend to stick w/ Hansen's b/c they use Splenda. As far as consuming lots of them, those people probably eat more food (just guessing) b/c they feel they can since they're sacrificing calories w/ a diet drink (i.e., folks who order a double whopper & fries w/ a diet coke - bitch you STILL in the drivethrough!!! )... But diet drinks CAN absolutely help b/c the calories don't register in your body - so swapping 2 regular sodas for 2 diet sodas is a savings of about 240 calories at least. Add that up over a week/month The trick is to swap the beverage without adding more food or bad food to your daily intake... I've never been much of a soda person, but was a juice lover I'm down to one small glass of juice a day which was HARD & I may or may not drink one diet soda a day (but I've never had the migrains you've experienced). Another alternative to soda is diet juices or sports drinks. Propel has lots of flavors & uses sucralose, not aspartame. It's 25 calories per bottle, vs. 120 per can of regular soda... I'mma shut up now Good luck w/ your plan whatever it turns out to be! . [Edited 1/8/08 5:01am]

I know our bodies are all different but going sugar free has really helped me loose weight and also cutting out all the bad carbs. What I have difficulty with is exercising! I know people say just 30 min walks a day is all you need but when you work 10 hr days the last thing I want to do is go to the gym Rhythm floods my heart♥The melody it feeds my soul

I think you are right, we are all different. I know for me I would probably lose weight if I cut out all sugar and the bad carbs. I just don't have the willpower... I need to find it though.

Most extreme diets work in the short term (in part) because your body puts out additional adrenalin to keep you going in the face of drastically-reduced caloric intake. But your adrenal glands can't keep pumping like that for long periods of time and eventually your weight loss will low - or even stop.
If you yo-yo (go through repeated sessions of crash dieting), your adrenal glands will eventually burn out and you'll be sluggish and fatter all the time. You're better off getting rid of toxins (sugar, artificial sweeteners, alcohol, nicotine, caffeine) and eating a very moderate, balanced diet (protein, veggies, good fats and low-glycemic carbs) at every meal. In time, your body will its own best weight. Unfortunately, most people wait until two weeks before they have to put on a swimsuit to even think about losing weight. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

So I'm back at the gym.....AGAIN!
I feel so great today. Tonight I'm doing cardio and chest. I'm starting a little easy and work my way up. I'm the heaviest I've ever been. I'm also very uncomfortable in my skin right now, physically. I feel out of shape. MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop!
