Any of you enjoy looking at the sky, especially at night?

Ever lose yourself completely in thought while gazing at the stars only to snap out of it when you see a satellite or a meteor?

Isn't it magnificent?

Have you ever been in a remote spot, unpolluted by the lights of population and see the density of the galaxy we live in and become overwhelmed at its intensity and our relative insignificance?

I remember when I was a kid being really amazed the first time I got out of the haze of the city and out into the arse-end of the countryside for a holiday... I hadn't realised how much you miss out on being in the city! Away from all that pollution and light you can see things so clearly with the naked eye, and the whole band of the milky way which is pretty cool.

I love looking at the sky.

I'm right outside of a very small town, so most of the time I have a perfect view.

A year ago, while at the LaFayette Mall in Lexington, Natural Wonders was having a "Going Out of Business" sale, and I bought a Nexstar 60GT Computerized Telescope for $80. Cheaper than a Prince concert ...I like to take it out onto the deck now and then and have a look.

Gazing up at the stars makes U realise just how insignificant your life is.

Usually whenever I ficiate my attention on the night sky etc,within a few days I will have a nightmare consisting of UFO sighting.

Yes, yes, and yes...

One of the most beautiful places to lay out on the grass at night, and stare into the sky - is on the Big Island of Hawaii.

There are almost NO city lights, therefore all you see, on a clear night, is a black background full of twinkling stars.

I love stuff like that. In fact, when my father was still alive, he and I would look at the stars and (corny as it sounds, he was in Hawaii and I in Minnesota) feel closer together.

I do this all the time. Especially when I'm visiting my parents on Lake Huron. It's so clear and open there. There's nothing on the horizon blocking your view either. And since I've taken an Astronomy course a few years ago, I really appreciate it even more. For Father's Day, we bought my dad a telescope cuz he's getting into stargazing as well. I just found out last night that there's a black hole in our own galaxy.

I love looking at the sky. I once had a friend who's lived all over the country come for a visit and tell me that he loved the sky here (in central IL). I didn't get what the big deal was, but he said there aren't a lot of places in the world where you can see this much sky all at once. I appreciate it a lot more now. It's very relaxing to see sky everywhere you look.

Everytime I drive out of the city I spend time gazing at the sky at night. Wjen I stay over at my parents, I'll spend a good half hour stargzing each night. It's so peaceful...

Ahhh, the stars, oh yes...
Night is the most beautiful time. all quiet, laying down on the sand/grass, smelling the fresh air, and just gaze.

Good, gawd...i was on my way 2 my car last nite when the sky grabbed my gaze...i sighed & wished i had somebody by my side who could appreciate such an awesome creation.
My favorites are the shades of red/purple streaks as the Sun goes down...a blanket of midnite blue serving as the backdrop of a train of grey clouds, 3D-animated with highlights of white courtesy of the moon's lite...and a full cherry moon that hovers between trees or buildings, looking so close u can touch it...ah, man!...takes my breath away every time.

I often find myself looking up at the sky at night,I have little or should I say no knowledge of astronomy but when I look over to the east I often see 3 stars all in a line...

I call them my 3 stars

I love to star gaze...

For labor day weekend my boyfriend, and some of my family members took a very long weekend up in Seminole State Park (Wyoming)...talk about beautiful and quiet. The stars were out in numbers. No lights, no smog.

I had everbody turn off their lanterns so that we could just look at the stars, especially the kids. Showed them the milky way, the big dipper, and some others. As we were looking up this huge meteor comes racing across the sky. The tip of it was like a fireball and the tail was so long.
It was awesome.

The kids were like screaming because they were so excited to see a meteor..

I don't know which is better, being alone, spending hours staring up at the night sky and dreaming or being with one you love and sharing the moment. They're both very good I suppose.

actually (it's a bit nerdy but hey that's me) i used to be a bit of an armchair astronomer. i worked for "astronomy ireland" for a bit when i was a student too, great fun

i got to try out "ireland's largest telescope" at an event one clear summer evening. it was pretty bloody big most incredible view of the sky i have ever seen.

Eye 2 lay out back at nite on a lawn chair and just stair at the stars, they r so beautiful!

I believe my best star-gazing occurred when I
camped in New Mexico, and Washington (state).

One night a friend & I had to drive to a meeting that was about 45min each way. The sky that night was amazing. Maybe 4 different shades of the deepest, blackest blue I've ever seen. And an incredibly bright moon that made the clouds look like fluffy neon. Let It Bleed was in the CD player (Monkey Man, Gimme Shelter, You Can't Always Get What You Want). I kept playing those songs over & over, looking @ the sky all the way home. It was so perfect...
