and I so wanted to make margaritas tonight

rule of thumb if you are mixing things into your alcohol theres no reason to get top shelf or expensive liquor.

Being a bartender it bothers me to watch people order Top Shelf and then want oj, cranberry or diet coke poured into it. Baffles my mind.

...the "bottle shop"...? lol That's what you call Liquor Stores down under?

I believe that there was a recent shortage in agave plants in Mexico, which in conjunction with the recent high-demand for tequila, has driven prices up everywhere.

thumbs up!
I was just reading an article (GQ? Yahoo?) where they were saying that - especially with the low dollar compared with the euro, making European liquors pricier for us - tequila is being ordered more & more in restaurants & such. One bartender was saying how top shelf tequila bottles that he couldn't sell a couple of years ago are now flying off the shelf.

shrug
How's about a Daiquiri instead of a margarita then???

I just googled it;

30 ml Malibu® coconut rum
top with pineapple juice
30 ml cream
Build all ingredients over ice in a tall glass. Float fresh cream last.

This stuff we got in Mexico. It's a cactus derived liqueur that they put in their Margaritas. We were doing shots of it as well.

It's supposed to heal whatever ails you, but it's main power is as an aphrodesiac!

But the name caught my eye, too, Damiana. And the bottles are shaped like a very curvy woman!

Here's the deal with this, I can have 3 or 4 margaritas that are top shelf and have a decent buzz and then the next day still be able to go about my life. 3 or 4 "regular" liquor drinks and I'm down for the count for the next day and sometimes even 2 days.

It sucks to get old, you've got to pay for quality. Otherwise, I'd rather not drink at all, I've always got something to do and doing it amongst puking is no fun.

I am very tempted to go to the bottle shop myself, I have had the same raspy cough for over a week, I am done! My dear old grandmother's home remedy for getting rid of a dry, raspy cough...a couple shots of tequila, with lemon juice squeezed into it. Sounds good to me, I'll let you know how it turned out. wink
adios.

yeah we dont have any proper "Bottle-O" stores here in Canberra, but i just call em that in general (bottle shop takes too long to say razz and isnt as cool cool ) but when i went to QLD the other week...we drove up.....we stopped in Port Macquarie and i saw a Bottle-O store.

Funny story about grog shops acutally, the local Coles shopping market recently had a major overhaul which included bringing the Liquor Land (coles grog shop) inside the actual Coles store..it was located just outside in a different store before. Anyway its all said and done now and where Liquor Land was is a new grog shop called "Liquor Legends" (i think to rub it in and to get people thinking its still Liquor Land razz) and the newly upgraded Coles is stuck with a CLOSED part of the Liquor Land because they dont have a Liquor license yet! TAKE THAT COLES!

boxed I always thought it was funny to have bottle stores.... Canada was the first place I experienced this and in the county where we were they had Sunday black outs... which was entirely silly as we all just hopped counties and brought it in..... nuts

I was seeking wine for a nice dinner I was going to and couldn't find the wine isle... stopped a clerk and asked and they looked at me like I was nuts and said firmly we don't sell that here... eek

In the US we can get it everywhere including Target and Walmart.
