Any orgers in Iowa?

P&R is a ghosttown lately, so I'm asking if anyone is planning to caucus.

No canditates, no politics. I just wanna know if you live here and if you're going to go out tomorrow.

All of my immediate family and most of my extended family lives in/near Sioux City. I highly doubt any of them will participate... They are so sick of the media and commercials.

I'm in New York and I'm sick of hearing about it. Although I did see some news reports from in front of the Knapp Center at my alma mater, Drake University (in Des Moines). woot!

Nobody. It all happens at once, no returns to trickle in, which I hate anyway.

There shouldn't be any predicting of results during voting. It's just another chance to skew the election.

That's one thing to do. I've never seen any floating cows ala "Twister" though.

I'll post a caucus report tonight. I think the process is a mystery, (and boring) to most people.

I think more people should be educated on our system - I also think a lot of people just are to comfortable in apathy to invest in educating themselves

I am interested...
didn't know what a caucus was, other than an early vote.

How can you not remember whether or not you chased a tornado? Risking your life to get within arm's reach of 100 mph winds wasn't enough to make an impression?

Well, I just got back, actually I went to dinner and several drinks to drown my sorrows. Results are coming in so here is how it went in my precinct.

Everyone comes in and gathers in 1 room. Then we all split into preference groups and count votes.

After that 1st count it was clear that unless massive amounts of people changed groups, nothing would change so it was Clinton 2, Obama 2, and Edwards 1. (that is a delegate count, not # of voters.)

People did engage in dabate and some of the "not solvent" voters (if your guy had less than 15%) moved, but nothing could change the outcome.

After delegates are chosen, there is an opportunity to debate platform items for the party, but none were submitted, so we ratified the count and delegates and went home.

This was the most attended caucus I have ever seen, which bodes well for the Democrats. They are turning out about 3 to 1 to the Republicans.

Oh yea, the Obama campaign was on it tonight. They were really well organized and ready to win it.

Okay, so I totally *underestimated* my parents! I just spoke with my mom and found out she was the caucaus point person for my hometown (of 800 people). eek

It was the first time they had a caucaus in my hometown since---well, since I can remember. Forty-two people showed up, including a 92 year old woman who had always voted Republican; but last night she went Democrat!

woot! clapping lol Go old woman!!!
And since P&R is a ghost town... WTF does commercials and media have with the actual process of election? That's a cheap ass excuse for not participating in said process but face it: If you don't caucus/vote you have no fucking right whatsoever to EVER voice an opinion on your country's politics cos you chose not to have your say. The old "I'm just one little vote, it won't matter if I vote or not" doesn't cut it either cos the democratic process is based on EVERYBODY'S vote.
There, my yearly dig at American assholes who don't vote and then complain all over about the White House politics, and a dig at everybody else in all other countries who do the corresponding. mad
