I wouldn't say I go out of my way, but where I live it's easy to support local, indie businesses as there are lots of them. My main shopping habits are a healthy mix between the two. Though, I rarely (if ever) eat in chain restaurants and will always choose an indie coffee place over starbucks (even before I worked at one) when possible.

Man, I wish I could write a big post like that without trying to crack a joke or even underlay some subtle irony or sarcasm.

oh...all that...I was just bullshittin'...

lol
I was being serious though. I often ask myself why in the 11,000 posts I've made here over the past five years, none were borne without a slyly humourous aside or subversive juxtapositioning of tense or grammar. Why can't I rationelle? Why can't I take part in informative debate? Why can't I take myself seriously? Why can't I be arsed giving my honest opinion? Do I even have one? I remmeber bob Dylan saying he woke up one person and fell asleep another. I'm Not There either, Zimmie.

Local farmers market

Local Clothier, Tailor and Dry Cleaner

I support them but only the market on a regular basis, cheap and good food.

Good luck. Man, I don't believe in luck. Or good. I'll just say I hope you'll pass. Should I delete the rambling prefix on this post? No, Because it's honset to my thought pattern and I think honesty is all there is, really. It's honesty that scares people most. That and silence.

you have your niche...relish in it...quite honestly, a serious post without a hint of sarcasm or rapier wit from you would be boderline disappointing...your posts are great in the sense that only a few even begin to understand your point of view, which is uniquely your own...and that makes them genius (your posts, not the people)

i remember I failed my theory test the first time on the hazard perception bit. I thought I'd seen Roy Walker on a pushbike on the pavement. I clicked on the mouse thinking thats one heck of a hazard, the host of catchphrase on a bike and then I started giggling, thinking whether other famous people lived on this street. Well I never recovered from that and managed to giggle to the end. In hindsight I should have played the Lionel Blair card.

no, I do not...I live in a small town that hasn't realized that it's not only local folks living here anymore...there's been alot of new people/families settle down here for cost of living reasons...I'd say 90% of the local merchants here haven't figured out that these non-locals aren't gonna py 25-75% more for things that they could buy elsewhere...
the days of "I'll buy it from Charlie because I know his family" are over...
we have a local television station here that in it's own way is very charming...it's not network affiliated or anything, it's simply homegrown programming....every year during our christmas parade, they've always set up at a park along the parade route...they have music, games, they tape the parade, etc...they always made it alot of fun...
this year our chamber of commerce wanted "attention" focused on our main street local shops and would not allow the tv station to do their usual set up...it was a bullshit move that backefired on their backwoods asses...
3 locally owned businesses closed for good last year...all had been here many years, two were around before I was born...all three had going out of business sales...all 3 adjusted their prices higher, in some cases as much as 50% higher than usual, before having their going out of business markdowns... confused

I can only speak for my lil' community, but most of the local merchants here will never see my money...

Man, I wish I could write a big post like that without trying to crack a joke or even underlay some subtle irony or sarcasm.
