Byron posted the most funny thread he's ever posted involving "The Onion" doing a racial "slip up" and "damage control" thread.

The entire premise was a play on the fact that the porn industry would take a moral higher ground on an issue, and a spoof on how current scandals are being handled in the press.

A bunch of us understood that (to include you) but a few were offended. There is no black and white you know?

Sometimes debates just spring forward. To think that something can be posted without impunity just is a bit naive. And though I took Byron's stance that it was all in good fun, I totally understood what the offended persons felt. Dialogue in that situation was necessary, if not an apology.

well, considering this is an online community and the responses of the majority pretty much seem to have a strong bearing on what is considered appropriate on this site, i would hazard a guess that a large part of what is "allowed" on GD is a reflection of the community standards of those who are part of this online community, no?

It's an open forum with minimal rules to help out those at work and to offer a bit of protection to the 1 or 2 impressionable minds left on here.

With that in mind, post what you like. Some will dig it, others won't. Be prepared to deal with both.

There is a difference between viewing material and endorsing it.

If you REALLY manage to offend someone, most are mature enough to deal with it in a fitting manner. Offer the same to them and work it out.

To answer the question directly:

Sexual content involving consenting adults will never be offensive to me.

Violence towards others (particularly against children) will never be funny to me.

That said, people can post whatever the fuck they want on here...but they should also be prepared to deal with some people telling them they don't like it without having a shit fit in response.

I actually think it's too much, but still here I am posting it again. It seems to depend on the mood of the day and who posts what.

As far as having a 'shit fit' people respond as they like I guess. It's not me trying to tell them how or what they should post, but just expressing my own opinion of it. If more people had spoken out about all the offensively racist Asian jokes so prevalent in the 80's it would have sure made me feel better as an Asian kid growing up.


I rarely find material offensive as mine is so shit, but violence of that nature for humor sake is a bit much for me. If someone else think's it's harmless fun, that's fine--We have differing opinions. At least I've expressed mine.

i seriously think part of the problem comes down to the ego and pride that goes with posting on a public forum. i think that most of us rationally appreciate that this is just a discussion/message forum and that when we throw nonsense out there it's no big deal, cuz it's not the first or last time you'll post.
