match.com - your thoughts

New Year, New Resolution. I've decided to get myself "out there" more this year and have been told by numerous people to get myself set up on match.com. Does anyone have any advice, stories or personal exp. to share? I'm a little weary of the internet dating thing but am willing to give it a try if it seems like something worthwhile and safe to do. Any advice?

It's worked for some people I know. Ended in either marriage or relationships over 5 years & counting.

I don't think it's a good idea to use those internet matching services. one of my ex's met an ex gf online who used him to become a citizen and his next gf who he married. we later found out that she has some type of felony record which wasn't a big deal because everybody’s got a past but she would never talk about which made is wonder and is in the beginning stages of divorcing him.

If you're not able to actually really "get out there" I say give it a try without having high expectations that something amazing will come out of it.

Just be careful and take your time getting to know someone online first (yes, I know there are no guarantees).

I know a few friends that have met people on a dating sites. None of them were robbed, raped or killed. They met some nice people.

any new relationship has risks, though.

I think if you're careful and don't meet for the first time in an abandoned alley it's as safe as hooking up with people the old fashioned way.

It's fizzy in that it erodes your teeth instantly and lets you taste the remainder in your mouth afterwards.

I do too (I've never dated anyone I've met online), but recently I considered all the talking I've done here with people, male & female, and decided the internet wasn't such a bad way to meet people after all.

wow, that's a very good point but I think this is a bit better because no ones here to "hookup" with someone (at least I don't think so). the relationships here developed from hanging out chatting and so on as you would with some one in person.

true, and that probably made it easier to talk to people, having some pretense like music or something to take the focus off of the sexy stuff
