Shit! I broke a tooth!

Yup, last night I decided to have a couple of chocolates. Had them in the fridge to stop them melting so they were really hard. I ate the chocolates, thought nothing of it, then something didn't feel right in my mouth. Thought I had something stuck in between my teeth or something but when I looked I saw that about a third of one my lower back teeth had broken off! eek

Must've swallowed the bit of tooth. lol It really shocked me when it happened, but I guess I just need to get a crown now and that's the end of it. What's nagging me though is that it just broke off. Doesn't seem normal though, even when eating something admittedly really quite hard? I'm worried that the tooth whitening stuff I've been using has weakened all my teeth and that I might need crowns on all of them. sad

I hope this isn't going to be too expensive. I was really looking forward to saving some serious money now that the finance-sapping holidays are over.

sad

I find it really depressing. It seems worse than say a broken bone, a cut or graze, that heals and is back to normal. Somehow a tooth breaking seems worse, such a clear sign of aging and decay of my body. Who the fucks has teeth just break at 26? I hate HATE having dental work too, so I'm being a big baby. I'm going to pop down to the local dentist later today and see what the deal is.

lol I have no idea what it is they do and what exactly a crown is either. If you look at those back grinding teeth (name?) I've basically lost a whole corner, say a bit more than a quarter if you split it into 4 looking from above. I can't stop running my tongue over it, but it's sharp and I can't ever forget that it's not right because I can feel it all the time. There's no pain though, which Val (shanti) said should mean I don't need root canal.

Damn chocolates. First time I'd eaten them in probably 6 months.

Could be, though Mon's never said anything about me doing that (she does it though).

I think the whitening gel I've been using for about a year is a reason too. It's 8% peroxide and I just swish it around in my mouth for 20 minutes a day (and lawd knows what that does to my gums!). I was buying this remineralizing gel to keep my teeth strong but haven't had any for a couple of months. I was just going to get some in a few weeks.

I've switched from Flouride toothpaste to non flouride toothpaste. I think Flouride is causing problems despite the fact that it's porported to help stop cavities. But with adults, the problem ususally isn't cavities--it's gum care, and flouride doesn't help in that matter.

If you want to help naturaly whiten your teeth, mash up strawberries and rub them on your teeth. Add a drop of lemon too.

Believe it or not strawberries actually whiten teeth.

I've heard that's Catherine Zeta Jones' favourite teeth whitening method. nod :gay:

This whitening stuff can't make up its mind. The first time I bought a tube it was like a booster toothpaste, half and half with your normal one, brushing for a few minutes 3 times a day. On the new ones it just says put the stuff in your mouth for 15 minutes a day. I guess I've gone a bit nuts with it through being paranoid about having yellow teeth from smoking. There have been days when I've had it in my mouth 3 times for a total of an hour so I've probably completely fucked myself up. I'm going to get this tooth fixed, get some of the remineralizing gel and use that for a few months to hopefully get my teeth stronger again. Oh, and give up smoking. neutral

It's certainly where you're at. How many threads you got going there now??? lol

I used to know a guy who claimed that the best way to stimulate hair growth was by rubbing warm urine into the bald patch.

Dayum! eek Well, dental work is pretty cheap here, so I'm sure it won't be that much, but I'm still not looking forward to this.

So you had a local anaesthetic for that? How long did it take? What exactly does getting a crown involve? boxed sad
