I rang Microsoft, they emailed me a UPS label, I packaged the console up and stuck the label on and the UPS guy came and collected it. 14 calendar days later, including Christmas and New Year, the fixed console arrived yesterday. Not bad, I think. And so red ring of death not too huge an issue and Microsoft pretty hot on ensuring you get a replacement that doesn't cost the customer a penny. I don't know....as a consumer, I just don't get a warm and fuzzy when a company has to spend an ADDITIONAL billion dollars on top of R&D and marketing dollars to clean up the mess generated..... I don't care about the hardware though - I think that's the wrong attitude; it's something you don't need to worry about - these companies replace them for you. Games make the console, and that's why the 360 is currently the best console.

I agree to an extent; its just a personal thing with me that I really don't like having to go through all of that rigamarole.....if I'm having to return my electronics (in the case of the RRofD, up to 3 and 4 times) soon after buying them, I'd just rather not deal with it.... Yeah, but this is again where you have to be wary of the internet/media distorting your view of truth. Yes, the Xbox failure rate is unacceptable, but it's actually a less than 10% failure rate. Yes, the Wii has a less than 2% failure rate, and the PS3 less than 5% - but it's still a minority of the consoles.

Microsoft will repair/replace your broken 360 for free. ok thats good to know, i will have to ring em up on monday...although technically its not broken but is faulty but im sure it will all be good, i mean im not paying for a console AND games only for the console to ruin the games within 2 - 3 days after purchase... And do you have a HDD version? if so did you keep it or send it with your 360? ive heard people have sent it with theirs and gotten completely new 360s and have had to do everything again eg save games, and even have to REBUY! xbox arcade games
You keep your HDD and keep everything unless your HDD breaks (which has not been a reported fault). Microsoft will repair/replace your broken 360 for free. Still sloppy though. Nobody should have to send their console back to be fixed (more than once in some cases), free or not. It's embarrassing. But still, like you said it has cracking games so it's up to the buyers, and they're choosing it over the ps3..

yeah if it wasnt for all the awesome games and very good online support...except around Christmas....man that was bad lol (apprently we are getting a free Xbox arcade game from that ) i wouldnt have bothered with it.....that and i knew all about the problems...except the disc scratching one so i knew what i was in for if it buggered out. but yeah for such a big company to screw up so bad is rather odd, But not surprising considering every version of Windows Microsoft release is half done
Im just waiting for MGS 4 and GT 5 before i even consider getting a PS3 as im not interested in Blu Ray movies (they are too expensive in Oz compared to normal DVDs) And after playing lots of Mario Galaxy im even more convinced that those crazy Asians are on some form of LSD! Picked up Unreal Tournament 3 - great game. The series lost its way after the first one, but plays and feels like old skool UT. They went back to basics and it paid off.

Well, apparently is causing a few injuries, this was reported on the local news.
Wii Elbow? Popular System Can Bring Pain POSTED: 9:10 am CST January 4, 2008 CINCINNATI -- The Nintendo Wii might seem like a great way to get the family together and have some fun. But one local doctor says it can be downright dangerous, Cincinnati television station WLWT reported Complaints of muscle soreness and injuries from playing the game are piling up. So fast, there are Web sites out there showing injuries gamers have gotten -- a black eye, a bloody hand, a knot on the knee and arms in slings. "Those type of injuries you wouldn't expect from indoor play with a video game," Dr. Bret Bruder said. "The popularity of it, the explosion of this has been unexpected and amazing." Bruder, an emergency department doctor, said injuries are adding up as more people get the game. Unlike previous game systems, the Wii often demands considerable physical motion to play effectively. And the sheer popularity and fun of the game system doesn't help matters. "You get caught up and you don't want to quit and take a break," Matt Vieth said "Young children through middle-age people (are) being over exuberant, coming in after hours and hours with their arms, shoulders and joints aching," Bruder said. Zach Martin had problems with his arms after boxing a few rounds on the Wii. "It kind of stresses out sometimes," he said. Bruder said a little common sense goes a long way. "A little bit of stretching if you're going to be doing some of the more vigorous activities like the golf and tennis," he said. "Don't play for hours and hours on end. Try to spread it out. We know it's fun, it's addictive, but keep it to a limit."
