I got lost there like every five minutes. My map literally fell apart at the end of my trip... I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt.

I want one of those. I'm actually pretty good with maps, although, I rarely use them because I don't travel into unknown areas very often.

This reminds me of a story. RodeoSchro could very well be dead today because of maps.
In 1987, a customer at a bank where I worked came to me with an idea. He wanted to develop some kind of apparatus that could display maps in cars. We called it the "Computer map" project. We went to Texas Instruments and spent time with their chip builders. We found some NASA cartographers. We put a lot of effort into the project. Unfortunately, we found the technology did exist but at the time, was too expensive to work commercially. So, the project died. The customer went on to an insurance deal with another partner. That partner ended up dead. They found his body in the trunk of his car. They found most of his blood at my old customer's house. The guy had purchased a key man life insurance on his partner, then killed him to collect the death benefit. So how does this translate to me being glad to be alive? During the course of our "Computer map" project, I had started the process - suggested by the customer - of getting a key man life insurance policy on me. I had also been to the guy's house. I actually sat in the chair where the insurance partner was later murdered. I sometimes wonder how close I really came to ending up in the trunk of a car.

It's all about connecting the map to point of interest in the area and only really using the map for the last mile or so.
I never get lost ... | |
