So what's the point of deactivating somebody's account if they can just come open a new one? It's like getting banned from wrestling and then coming back with a mask on and everybody can obviously tell it's you!

You're assuming that the wrestler wearing the new mask is actually allowed back in the ring again

That's true I am. They did always allow it in wrestling though. Like how many people have the same physique as Andre the Giant. It made for good entertainment though! If she disguised herself better though (which might be impossible for her), could you still ban her/or anyone for that matter?. U can tell from what computer/network somebody is coming from right? In this instance with Nep2nes though she's likely at a computer pod at a school though. [This message was edited Mon Oct 21 6:27:55 PDT 2002 by divo02]

Sure, we could just check the originating IP address easily enough.

Ooops. I guess I'm not too computer savvy.
But...one could always go to another computer alltogether with a different IP address if they really wanted to! I guess at the very least it would limit their posts since it likely would be an inconvenience for them. You should have a weekly list of people banned! It would be fun to read what they wrote. Like I never even really ever heard of Mr.Blues until you mentioned him. ian said: Sure, we could just check the originating IP address easily enough.

Nope - you could block an entire block of addresses if you wanted to. So for example if a university had a class C domain it is a simple matter to reject requests from that domain. Easily done. A bit trickier for domestic ISPs with DHCP though (dynamic allocation of IP address etc). As for what people have said to get themselves booted off the site - to be honest people are very rarely kicked off for just one specific offence. Matt, Ben and myself are all pretty easy going guys you know Usually if we feel someone has to be removed from the site it is a result of a lot of continued abuse - ongoing breaking of the site rules, being abusive to other people (including moderators) and continued flouting of the terms and conditions with which this service is provided.

- Matt had his nipples pierced and passed the bar exam. BTW, there was actually no connection between my nipples getting pierced Monday and the releasing of my bar results Tuesday. (Some of you with education in logic may recall the logical fallacy of "post hoc ergo propter hoc.") Oh, and thanks TRON! Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |
