What do you do when some lady on your job has gotten engaged and runs around the office showing off her ring? Do you go over and congratulate her? or do wish she would shut the fuck up and grumble at your cube?

Well I congratulated the lady on my job. She's really nice and all, but if I didn't care for her much, then i'd probably would have grumbled with envy. I know some people just looked at her like she was crazy and didn't say congrats or anything at all.

Or what if they keep talking and talking and talking about it hours later, I think that's about the only thing that would irritate me and would want them to shut the hell up.

If I know her well enough, I congratulate but I also grumble at my cube, especially when they carry on. There was one lady who had an imaginary boyfriend who was sent off to Iraq. He made it home for Christmas one year and she showed up to work with an engagement ring from him. I swear it was a $10 ring from Claire's. In fact, one of our coworkers had the same ring and confirmed she got it from Claire's. The lady never did explain what happened to that imaginary boyfriend. Bitch was crazy!

They should be able to revel in their happiness. I'd never go over the top but smile and acknowledge them and return to what I was doing.

when co-workers feel the need to play town crier and transmit some big news in their lives, they get *ONE* "congrats!" from me and after that, if they keep pimping their damn news, i tune it out and ignore them. i'm not of the "co-workers are like family to me" school, so while it's nice that good things happen to them, i'd really rather not share in the special moments of their lives any more than i absolutely have to.
