As fucked-up as this movie is, I had to buy it. Everyone I show it to just sits there in disbelief.

Do I like it? Not really its just a freak show that represents too much of America.

Gummo is awesome - a truly horrifying trainwreck of a movie that leaves you unsure whether to keep watching of flee in terror at the mear sight of the thing. I first saw it on IFC, unsure of where I came in on it and continued to watch in stunned disbelief and freakish curiosity at what I was seeing. I kept trying to figure out if it was a real documentary (the part where the rednecks are being interviewed about "niggers"), whether or not it had a point, how one little kid could possibly be born so ugly, whether or not the characters were actually "acting" or not, and whether or not I was enjoying watching it.

Before I knew it, I'd watched the whole thing and didn't know if I should laugh or break into a fit of childish sobbing over what I had witnessed. Of course, when it was on again, I taped it and have since loaned it to few friends - with the strict warning that I in no way ENDORSE the product - who are more convinced than ever that I should be jailed immediately for even owning such a thing, let alone distributing it.

I like all of Larry Jackson (?)'s movies - "Bully", "kids", and yes, even "Gummo" - in as much as I "like" GWAR, Marilyn Manson or GG Allin. They provide me with a safe window through which to view segments of our culture and society that I KNOW are out there but for which I don't want to come within 100 miles of.

Twisted, twisted stuff.

i second what james says...bully and kids at least have a compelling story to follow...

this movie has zero redeeming values...

TRON

I just recently saw this and am still processing it. I think my favorite part is when the mother is pointing the gun at her son's head and then starts tap dancing. I shouldn't have but I couldn't help laughing at this movie. Shame on me.

I am a fan of Larry Clark his films are great - Kids, Another Day In Paradise and Bully.
Also a fan of Harmony Korine who wrote Kids and directed Gummo and Julien-Donkey Boy.
All these films are very disturbing.

"Gummo" was a pretentious for the sake of being pretentious and personally I thought it sucked. "Kids", as difficult as it was to watch, actually had some redeming social and artistic value.
