no no no! DON'T listen to them. There's no need to take the green line anywhere except the Garfield Park Conservatory.

Where will you be going to school? Northwestern? U of Chicago? DePaul? UIC? And where will you be staying?

oooh, if you're into vinyl, Chicago has great wrecka stows. I always have the best luck with Prince vinyl when I go there. There is a nice one called Dusty Groove on Ashland. Then Reckless Records on Belmont & Broadway, and Dave's Records on Clark Street just south of Wrightwood.

Oh, and if you want to go to the top of the John Hancock building, don't do the touristy observation deck. Go in building on the south side and go to the Signature Lounge on the 96th floor for a drink. Fabulous views!

When the weather gets nicer, you have to go on an architectural boat cruise--do the one that goes on both the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. The Chicago skyline is like an illustrated history of modern architecture. Even if you're not into architecture, it's really interesting and fun. (And not too expensive--$25 maybe?)

And your point is? He can take the red line to IIT too. The other two places aren't "must-see" destinations, imho. A pancake house and a barbershop? There are better things to do/see in Chicago.

Oh and btw, I just checked the CTA map...the Green Line doesn't even go to 75th Street! It stops at 63rd Street, which further proves my point that he should not listen to you guys! lol

1. who you calling Jennifer Aniston. mad

2. why assume rushing wants to do illegal stuff?

3. why assume you can't find illegal stuff on the northside or the westside?
wink

Don't judge me unless you know me. All the things I recommended are "the real Chicago", too. I'm sorry, but a barbershop and a pancake house are not that essential. So should I recommend Cabrini Green--where Hoop Dreams was filmed--is that real enough for you? rolleyes

i suppose...but those are pretty sketchy areas. If you want a pancake go to Original House of Pancakes on Clark. I see no reason to go to IIT unless you go to school there.

you mean the scary ghetto stuff! seriously sending or even suggesting someone new to Chicago go to Humbolt area or South side (unless it's like near Evergreen Park) is stupid ...IMHO! Why don't you suggest he go take a look at the Grand Ballroom on 63rd and Cottage Grove where Pimps Up Ho's Down was filmed. confused

I'm pretty sure they tore down the Robert Taylor homes awhile ago. There's not even that much left of Cabrini these days. That neighborhood is mostly gentrified and mixed income housing, I think. Just a few blocks left of Cabrini that are really, really run down. (I knew it was a matter of time when a Dominick's opened across the street several years ago.)

Don't even bother responding to mirror anymore. He is totally just suggesting things that he knows would not be safe for someone who is new to the city. I can't believe I fell into his Troll Trap! doh! (I'm normally pretty good about not getting sucked in by his ridiculousness. lol )
