Did I understand this right? Incandescent/Fluorescent

The U.S. is fazing out incandescent light bulbs for fluorescent in five years? Meaning there will not be incandescent light bulbs available any more?
Whose shit idea was this?

I think the idea is that the mercury contained in the lights are now at a manageable enough level or some shit, and since the lights use 1/3 to 1/4 the electricity , it will have a huge impact.

But I thought it only applied to government funded buildings, etc. etc.--is the legislation for the rest of us? confuse

I use florescent in everything, but my recessed ceiling lights, and I'm only using those until Florescent versions with a decent "look" can be made. lol

LED Lights are also on the way--they're already offered for Christmas lights, and use 1/10th the electricity your regular Christmas lights use.

I loathe fluorescent lights. I only have some in the kitchen counter lights and thats only because they were already there. But I don't keep a lot of lights on anyway unless I have company.
Are hologen lights bad too?

I loathe them as well.

I use 20 Watt incandescent bulbs, and red 15 Watt bulbs ONLY.

I'm not sure. They burn really hot.

The heat is an indication that much of the energy is not being distributed as light obviously.

Some of the newer "soft light" fluorescents actually aren't bad. I use those in my house. They give off a convincing yellow glow.

To me, it's just that I wanted to conserve as my electricity as possible being that it's so expensive now.

I use sunlight whenever possible, use florescents, and use a laptop instead of a desktop right now. I'll eventually swap my T.V.s to flatscreens though the savings won't be high cause I don't watch t.v. falloff

what's the difference in using a laptop vs a desktop?

the amount of electricity used. I'm not sure what the amount is, but it is noticeably less on a laptop.

Of course, if you own a desktop, flat screens , which are common now, use about 1/3 less power than a regular screen.

I swapped to flatscreen last year before buying a laptop.

I keep most of my light on dimmers.
They are only on when its night, in that room and all the way up only when I'm cooking or eating.

I hate them as well and don't use any currently. It's the least flattering light possible.

Im going to be buying a life time supply of incandescent bulbs this year then. nod
I would think its likely they will be a specialty item and have to be purchased at a higher price then. All the lights in my home are vintage lamps and fixtures, some with those old giant three-way bulbs/sockets and others with tiny nightlight sockets/bulbs.

My ceiling fan and lights in my bathroom all use cute littl;e decorative bulbs. They would be hideous if flourescent. sad
