Taken to an extreme, India has entered a global market, but there are entire regions of major cities that have 'orphaned widows' cause women are viewed as worthless once their child bearing years are over or if their husbands leave them or die.
Certainly the 'pecking order' there , albeit far more extreme than what I'm pointing out here, is still cause for concern.
