Chinese families make them on special occassions. Making them is a lot of work, but I remember from when I was in China and with some Chinese families here, it is a family event ... Everybody joins in making dough and filling and folding the dumplings ... You can steam them too, and that's how I like them best ...

I guess Gyoza is the Japanese version, that's what I grew up on. takes forever to make them, and they disappear in seconds. Over the years I've made variations on the recipe, I now use ground chicken, but any way I make it, people beg for them. I normally do them as a Xmas treat to coworkers, they've been asking for them since summer! I do both also, fried or steamed. I also use traditional dipping sauce, but try some hot salsa with it too!
