why do dentists ask you questions while they've got utensils in your mouth and have numbed have of it????

Mine ( a close personal friend as well ) usually doesn't - excpet the occasional "are you OK ? " - he is focused on his work not conversation - I like that

my dentist does this to me all the time I usually nod when I'm trying to respond

my dad (who was a dentist) apparenlty told sick jokes to his poor patients while they had their mouths full of intruments.
