Rate the last three movies you've seen (fall edition)

In the theater, on DVD, on TV, online, whatever...

Breakfast at Tiffany's star star star star (out of five) - I watched this on DVD last night for the first time. It's Audrey Hepburn so what else needs to be said? Minus one star for casting Mickey Rooney as the Japanese landlord.

American Gangster star star star star - I usually stay away from Russell Crowe films, but caved in for this one. Epic and well-done, but it was hard not rooting for the big drug dealer just because it was Denzel. I don't think that was intentional.

Control star star star star 1/2 - Excellent. Love the black and white cinematography. The juxtaposition of some scenes and Joy Division songs were a little predictable, but that's a minor complaint. And Samantha Morton is in it. That's never bad. drool

Least recent to most recent.

Michael Clayton star star star 1/2 - Slowly reveals "the truth" as the movie goes on which is what draws you in. Doesn't leave you like "WTF?" at the end which some people may or may not like, but the series of events did jump around once which was fun. I don't think I needed to see it on the big screen though.

Last weekend, I saw American Gangster -- always good to see DW do his thing, but the ending spawned more questions than it resolved, IMO. disbelief

Yesterday, I watched Breaking and Entering for La Binoche. My, she's aged. Jude Law amazes me -- tons of movies, zero believability...

I also watched Little Children, which I found to be an odd, odd movie. Just absolutely odd. whofarted

Tonight, I'm going to see either Michael Clayton or Lions for Lambs.

Gone Baby Gone star star star 1/2 - Entertaining, but the ending was a letdown. Some really good acting, though...Casey Affleck and especially Amy Ryan were VERY good. Amy Ryan's white trash, neglectant mother really made it hard to sympathize with her when her child shows up missing (which is what the movie was aiming for)...and her one moment of vulnerability really cut thru all the earlier disdain you find yourself feeling towards her.

Into The Wild star star star star 1/2 - Loved this movie...Emile Hirsch was extremely good in the lead role, and Hal Holbrook was heartbreakingly perfect in his supporting role. Made me go look up the true story the movie is based on afterwards...

Southland Tales star star - Wasn't all that good, had too many characters and didn't tell the story very effectively...but still was entertaining enough and had just enough humor to keep me interested thru most of the film. And Cheri Oteri was pretty good as a bad-ass Neo-Marxist lol lol...

After The Wedding star star star star - Well-acted melodrama from Denmark about ex-lovers that reuinte several years later at a wedding with unforseen consequences.

Factory Girl star star 1/2 - Okay biopic about legendary "it" girl Edie Sedgwick. Sienna Miller and Guy Pierce are spot on as Edie And Andy Warhol respectively, but ultimately, it didn't make much of an impact on me.

Mondo Topless star 1/2 - I admit I only watched this because I wanted to see go-go girls from the 60s shake their stuff. There isn't much here beyond that except for a mockumentary-type voiceover telling us how dangerous these women can be when they dance. At 60 minutes, it was still too long. The women looked good though. razz

"broken english" - i liked it because parker posey was in almost every frame, and also because gena rowlands was in it and i love her too; otherwise, it wasn't anything special. a precious indie flick that's engaging enough to watch in bed if you're sick or hungover.

"knocked up" - i knew i would hate this movie but i wanted to prove myself wrong. and holy crap, guess what??? I HATED IT! biggrin

"control" - i was in a shitty mood when i saw this but it was kind of appropriate to my mindstate, and even though i saw the world in slo-mo black and white for a while after i exited the theater, when i regained my faculties i decided i really enjoyed the movie.

30 Days of Night: C
Beautiful cinematography and make-up and great premise, but plot holes and flat performances undercut its potential.

Jenifer: F
Good source material and trademark touches of Argento gore, but the scenes grew intolerably redundant and the characters were totally unsympathetic. Looking at Steven Weber is generally fun, but I'd have been better off Google imaging him.

I Know Who Killed Me: Z
Wack. Just friggin' wack. I could have killed my wife over this mess. confused

No Country for Old Men..... I thought that shit was really boring...but not as bad as some other stuff I've sat through. star star

American Gangster..... It was really really really good, but I think most people are saying it's great because in comparision to the other crap that's out, it seems like it's the best damn movie ever made. star starstar star

Dan in Real Life..... It was sweet and cute, and I teared up when they sang "let my love open the door" and I laughed when they danced to " nasty girl" star star 1/2

Ratatouille ~ A+ Really cute, what can I say I love the Pixar movies and this is probably my 2nd fav behind Monsters, Inc.

The Last Kiss (with Zach Braff) ~ C What a freakin' depressing movie. I think I hated it, and yet I've watched it a couple times now shrug Most of the acting is really great.

Stealth ~ B+ What...it was good. I usually watch movies for entertainment not for deep intellectual stimuli lol

lol...Well, it wasn't trash, but it should have been MUCH better because the story was a pretty wild one nod. It's as if three separate movies were taken and mashed together, including each movie's entire cast (plus extras lol), and somehow tried to tell all three movie plots in 2 hours.

I really kinda dug that movie. I like how it was a romantic comedy that was just as tragic as it was funny.

i didn't dislike it. it would make a good date movie. i just thought it got a little too presh for its own good sometimes. i probably won't watch it again but i'm glad i watched it. when parker was talking shit with the french guys in the bar, i had a good laugh. "everyone knows french men have a weird thing for their mothers. it's not like that in america. probably the cooking." wtf? lol

American Gangster - good but not great imo...

Why Did I Get Married (or whatever it was called) - cheeky as hell, some funny moments but just so-so...

Can't remember what I saw in a theater before that so I'll go w/ what I've rented from Netflix - the last one was Little Miss Sunshine, I loved it...

Way of the Gun (C+) - A bit slow in some parts, but pretty good in others and Benicio Del Toro + Ryan Phillipe = drool

Edward Scissorhands (A) - What can I say? I love this movie! Especially around this time of the year. Classic!

Snatch (B) - Surprisingly good! and better than Lock, Stock, 2 Smoking Barrels. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did

...I haven't seen a current movie in a while! The last one was "I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry" boxed
If you will, so will I
