I just received my new passport. Actually, I got a diplomatic passport because I will be transfering to Ottawa in a few months. Passports will be mandatory for all US Citizens entering the US in June of 2008. Beginning January 31, all US Citizens will need proof of citizenship and a photo id.

You wouldn't have a stamp. If I read your profile correctly, you are Canadian. If you walked across the border or crossed in a vehicle, you would not get a stamp. I have had US Citizens ask for a stamp, and I tell them I do not stamp US passports. I would, however, stamp the passport from Spain.

When you cleared Customs, you probably did not have to clear immigration. The only time I stamp a Canadian passport if they are working in the US and are admitted with a visa. Since you are not required a visa, you did not get a stamp.

I do not work at an airport, but tell me what happened when you exited the plane. Were you simply on a layover? Who took your declaration or did you fill out a declaration form?

Just kidding about the drugs by the way, you didn't even laugh at that lol

I had to do a declaration form for sure, although I don't recall the sequence after getting off the plane.

lol the flight attendants hand out your declaration so you have it ready when you depart the plane. then after you collect your baggage a guy in a booth takes it and basically says "see ya!" wave
actually i told him i was leaving the next day and was i in the right line? he joked that this was the line for cool people. so i still wasn't sure if i was in the right place lol.

btw will it still be winter when you become an honorary canuck? razz
hope you enjoy the city. you will see all the political types working there!

That's what I thought. This is done to expedite your travel. I will be there in April, May, or June. Will it still be winter?

Province? What is that French?

I will be in Ottawa, Ontario and will work at the airport there. I will have 90 days to find a place to live once I arrive. So far, I have researched different extended stay places like Les Suites and Minto Suites. Minto Suites seems nice.

you will be there for the tulip festival! millions and millions of tulips on parliament hill smile
it will be a shade cooler than what you will be used to but it should be lovely spring weather!

the world's largest tulip festival, takes place May 4 to 22 in Ottawa.
For more than two weeks, the Canadian national capital
of Ottawa is alive with not only blooming tulips,
but music, parades, fireworks, and people from around the world.

I'm confused. confuse I thought that travelers entering the U.S. always have to clear both Customs and Immigration, even though both inspections might be done by the same CBP officer. For example, if I go to Vancouver and then re-enter the U.S. at the I-5 land border crossing, I'll stop at one booth and deal with one person, who will essentially ask me two things:

1) What's my citizenship, and do I have a document to prove it? (i.e., Immigration)

2) What am I bringing back from Canada? (i.e., Customs)

* * *

Interestingly, in the last 15 years, I've had my passport stamped exactly once, and that was by U.S. Immigration at JFK airport when re-entering my own country. shrug
