Oh Lord, I can remember as a kid sneaking to watch Love American Style because my Pentecostal Pastor Father would'nt allow us to watch that sinful show in the house. I also liked the skits they'd do before the show started. There was this one where this black couple were about to eat the dinner the woman just cooked, When the man looks at his wife, Smiles and says, "You Know Honey? Black Is Beautiful" She smiles back at him, All of a sudden his smile leaves, He holds up a charred, burnt piece of steak and says "BUT THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!"

I loved the theme song. That's when I first saw Doris Roberts. I knew she was from back in the day, but I couldn't remember when I first saw her. I forgot about Robert Hays, now that explains when I first saw him as well.

i remember that started as a show called "Valerie" and then valerie harper left the show and they retitled it "the hogan family" (catchy!) and brought on sandy duncan to replace valerie harper.

Did you have to be poor to love this show? I loved the family portrait in the ending credits. I can't quite remember her role but I think it was the neighbor. Real smart ass of a woman. Anyway, she plays bingo at one of the places I go to!
