Davenport?! sure. my grandparents used to call their couch a davenport. i think a lot of old people call their couches and sofas "davenports". i don't know what that's all about. i'm just trying to be inclusive.

http://en.wikipedia.org/w...%28sofa%29
Davenport is the name of a series of sofas manufactured by the now-defunct A.H. Davenport Company. Due to the popularity of the furniture at the time, the name "Davenport" has become a genericized trademark and is often used as a synonym for "sofa", especially in the Midwestern United States and in Northern New York State, in the Adirondack Region and on the western flank of that region in the Tughill Plateau, in villages such as Camden, and especially amongst those born there before World War II. As it happens, the so-called Davenports of that region are often locally made sofa versions of the locally manufactured convertible Adirondack Chair. Metaphorically speaking, "Davenport" is like "Kleenex" or "Dockers". Bless that site. Oh shit, my hat done fell off

Time for some Wiki action. my guess is it's a brand name that went out of style, and younger generations don't make the connection.

The first time I heard the word "sofa" I was watching the Cosby show with my parents. I started laughing hysterically because I thought that it was a "dirty word".
Later on, during the commerical break, I learned that sofa and couch meant the same thing.

sofa
this is the one I own at the moment, I thought it was an excellent buy. Its covered in a dark grey wool felt. When I bought it five years ago I had intentions of using it for when guests sleep over. Its very minimal. http://themagazine.info/p.../1121.html
