My first computer http://en.wikipedia.org/w...clair_ZX81
Does anyone remember back in the day the Sinclair ZX81? http://en.wikipedia.org/w...clair_ZX81 Very first computer i got, following year i got the ZX Spectrum, i then had a Commodore 64, things went quite for a few years until 1999 when i bought my first desktop, a Gateway PC based around a Intel Pentium 3 750MHz processor It was that box that inspired me to start building PC's myself...never took a lesson, all trial and error...started swapping out parts, CPU, memory, graphics card etc. I did my first total build in 2002 with all new parts i bought...and i haven't stopped since Since then i've rebuilt my PC about 20 times, upgrading components as they hit the market. While i swapped everything out countless times the only thing i retain is my Aopen H700A super tower case, because i can't find ANY case that comes close to the quality, size, and sheer breath of what can be down with the case, you can strip this case down to it's base frame, removable motherboard tray etc. My monitor i got in Nov 2003 cost me €1000 at the time, it's still considered the best 22" model ever made , LCD can NEVER come close to this CRT for pure image quality. Computers have always been in my blood, they've always facinated me and as a child provided endless hours of entertainment, back in the BASIC days, spending countless hours programming and inputting data...to finally be greated with some cheesy chess game or some such thing It's not just a grey box, it's a window to the world [Edited 12/11/07 0:32am] "Waiting to be banned"

My first was a ZX81 as well. It still amazes me how much it was possible to do with 1/2 K of memory. I got a Spectrum next, I loved that machine to bits. Even though the QL, the C64, the BBC Micro (and arguably even the Vic20) were better machines I always preferred the Speccy. I wrote hundreds of games for it.
Of the modern era my favourite PC was a Gateway (I used to work for them so I made sure it was well built), it only died a year ago. In theory, I'd love to build my own machine, but in practice laziness is a big factor. So I bought a Dell. Well, it's dirt cheap and it works. The extra time and effort needed to build my own doesn't seem worth it somehow. If I was going to save tons of money building one then I'd consider it. Last time I did some checking the parts for the machine I would build totted up to more than the equivalent Dell. So if I ever do build my own I think it'll be purely for the 'I made this!' factor. Liberation (and anyone else), if you're interested in playing your old speccy games again, are you aware that there are various spectrum emulators out there? The one I have is the Spectaculator (although it's not free anymore, there are various other ones here http://www.worldofspectru...ors.html). You'll find links for the ROMs for most games are available on worldofspectrum too. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

You don't need a spectrum emulator to play it either, you can play it here : http://www.galway.cc/comp...d,/gid,43/ or you can download it from the PU Arcade section of http://www.pragmaticutopia.com (along with all your other favourites, although I think you'll need to register first). There are other sites where you can play JetPac and other games online, but there's no point me doing a search to provide links - the firewall here at work will block out all the good stuff. Should be easy enough to find though. Here's a couple of Jet Pac remakes : http://www.blitzgamer.com...-pack.html http://www.onemorelevel.c...hp?game=93 I think the original is the best version though. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard.
