Dirty Laundry

Not what you might think, it's actually a serious subject.
I received an email about this film from a friend whose daughter is one of the Executive Producers.

Family and Friends,

As I have moved between the television and marketing worlds I have discovered how difficult it is for anyone especially for African Americans to get anything produced and shown on the TV and movie screens in America. I am very proud to share with you a new and amazing film that is opening in New York and Los Angeles today (12.07.07) called "Dirty Laundry" that my daughter Gabrielle is one of the executive producers. Dirty Laundry will also open in Washington DC , Baltimore, and Atlanta on December 28th.

Dirty Laundry is a hilarious comedy about a family drama. Gale King (editor-at large, O Magazine) said "This is a very important story that has never been told before" Below is the billboard about this special independent film and the wonderful cast that gives outstanding performances in this funny, informative and entertaining story. Also attached is a brief article on the movie overview and what the exciting buzz is about the film.

For my New York friends the movie is showing at Clearview Chelsea 9 , located at 260 West 23rd (between 7th and 8th Aves). For my Los Angeles friends, the movie is playing at the Mann Beverly Center Cinemas (inside the Beverly Center Mall) 8522 Beverly Blvd. Please contact the theater for show times. For my Atlanta, DC and Baltimore friends, I will forward the theater information once it's confirmed.

To ensure its survival and continued impact, it's critical that our communities support quality independent films at the box office. So, the MOST important thing you can do is buy tickets! Tickets can be purchased at online ticket vendors such as movietickets.com. Get tickets in advance! Tickets will be available at the beginning of the upcoming week. If you cannot make it, buy tickets anyway! Your support is truly appreciated and every ticket makes a difference. Go to a matinee! We're encouraging all supporters to attend the matinees as they are more difficult to sell out. Invite a big group of family and friends to go see the movie with you. And lastly, once you've seen the film, please SPREAD THE WORD and help create buzz around "the little film that could"!

Best Wishes and Thank You

DIRTY LAUNDRY

"Everybody Has Some"

A Maurice Jamal Film

DIRTY LAUNDRY is a hilarious comedy about family drama. Just as Soul Food and The Birdcage dealt with issues affecting our families through comedy; DIRTY LAUNDRY is that rare independent film that will affect the way families relate to one another all while entertaining you and making you laugh. It has played to sold-out sneak peek screenings at theaters and festivals across the country. GAYLE KING (Editor-At-Large, O Magazine) proclaims, “This is a very important story that has never been told before.”

A modern-day prodigal son story with a twist, the film follows the Davis family. They are a traditional southern family lead by Evelyn, played by LORETTA DEVINE (Dreamgirls, Waiting To Exhale), dealing with the return of Patrick, played by ROCKMOND DUNBAR (Prison Break, Soul Food). After ten years, Patrick has returned to discover a secret that could rock his seemingly “perfect” life as a New York magazine writer. And, Evelyn’s own story holds as much drama and secrecy as her son's. As the secret is revealed, we take a riotous ride with this family as they deal with all of the unresolved issues that have been brewing for years. The film features standout performances from JENIFER LEWIS (Cars, Madea’s Family Reunion), Queen of Comedy SOMMORE and TERRI J. VAUGHN (The Steve Harvey Show, Daddy’s Little Girls). Supermodel and TV host VERONICA WEBB and gospel legend DR. BOBBY JONES also make cameo appearances.

What People Are Saying

“Dirty Laundry…belongs to Loretta Devine. Devine builds a jolly and touching character from the stock figure of a Georgia mom coming to terms with her disaffected gay son.”
-- Variety

“Black audiences are ready to embrace just this type of film.”
-- The Advocate, May 2007

“It’s an unusual story, and I knew a lot of people would want to see it.”
-- LORETTA DEVINE, Black Enterprise, August 2007

“Dirty Laundry is good clean fun for the entire family!”
-- FLO ANTHONY, celebrity journalist/radio and TV personality

“Dirty Laundry is a sweet, fun, family comedy with a big heart and a wild cast of outrageous, but real characters. It's as much fun as a raucous family dinner.”
-- TOURÉ, novelist, TV host and former Contributing Editor Rolling Stone

“This movie will have a significant and positive impact on the Black community and our country. It is current, important and just in time...the movie is excellent!”
-- KEITH BOYKIN, best selling author, host, BET-J's "My Two Cents"

“We sponsored the 12-city summer tour of Dirty Laundry because it is historically significant.”
-- Joe Solmonese, Executive Director, The Human Rights Campaign
