I want to see this movie, but unfortunately for me there will be no element of surprise. I know someone who also has not seen the movie but looked up every reference and spoiler to it imaginable and had to tell me all about it. Oh, well.
However...meat pies HE'S COMING AGAIN

I saw it too - I really enjoyed it! Depp and Bonham Carter were both exceptional. Some thought the excess blood was a tad gratuitous, and I have to agree, but it was done artistically at times.
Nice art direction! VOTE....EARLY

I just saw the movie yesterday. I'm a HUGE fan of the stage version--seeing it in local productions as well as a PBS broadcast with Angela Landsbury.
I've got to say that while the stage version is extremely powerful, and I really missed "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd," this movie was fantastic. It was a wonderful adaptation to the screen. Apparently, Steven Sondheim is pleased with this even more than Westside Story, sooooo there ya go! Johnny Depp is one of the best actors I've ever seen--hands down. It didn't matter that he didn't have a huge singing voice or physical stature of some of the other stage Sweeney Todd's. Johnny's acting ability and cinematic presence are simply in a class by themselves. Actually, the entire cast was AMAZING... I,personally, could have down with a little less gore or depiction as far as the actually killing, BUT THEN AGAIN...it's all relevant to work and Burton's vision as it pertains to Le Grand Guignol: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...nd_Guignol And as I said, I did miss "The Ballad...'s" driving force, but the movie was excellent. I'm not sure if it will will a best pic award.. It should, but I'm not sure if everyone will appreciate it?? But dayum if Johnny Depp doesn't win best actor Academy Award for this one.. I just don't know what more he has to do to win one. I love the movie so much, I want to see it again... just to pick-up on all of the little nuances. Amazing work! Bravo! edited to correct typos, add link, and a little more clarity... [Edited 12/24/07 15:01pm]

Amazing work. i agree with everything u said here i might go see it again for the 5th time I tell ya what.. I'm HAUNTED by it. Ok. This is a sappy story. I apologize in advance. But I cried when Lovett and Toby sang "Nothing's gonna harm you." I used to sing that song.. just in a silly way to my very first pet--not a family pet.. but MY first dog. It was stupid, yeah.. ok, ok... But as it turned-out: my little dog ended-up with a brain tumor, and I had to make the decision to euthanize him. I remember that day.. and then the scene in the movie when Lovett.. was crying..just brought it all back. (I don't want to go into too much of the plot....) Anyway.. the day he was euthanized, I remembered how I would sing that song to him. I don't sing the song anymore. Sometimes, shit happens; it sucks, and there's nothing we can do about it.

Oh and the duet "Pretty Women." Wow! Then "At the Sea" was very.. interesting, right? lol Of course "Joanna.. Sondheim is truly a genius. I was just going to come back to edited my post because I didn't feel I conveyed the irony of my particular situation... The movie and the play well it was a different situation... yes????.. but then again from Lovett's--perhaps the entire piece's perspective perhaps no. Yeah.. Sweeney Todd is a masterpiece regardless of the medium, truly. I sure hope the movie gets an audience. It deserves an audience. [Edited 12/24/07 15:20pm]
