Can't BELIEVE my newspaper printed this

I wish I could print the cartoon, but you'll have to click the link:

http://www.washingtonpost...e=20071208

The mom is shooting breastmilk from her boob right into the baby's mouth! It's not like I don't know what breastfeeding is, but this just seems so...inappropriate for a cartoon that kids read.

Why do you think it's inappropriate? I never hid the fact that I breast fed from my older son. I just calmly explained that I fed his brother from my breast and that milk was there. I just said it casually and acted like it was no big deal.

It's a totally natural thing, not sexual in any way.

I don't see any boob ... Any kid that understands that knows what boobs are for and where they can be found ... I think it is a good try to raise awareness for the goods of breastfeeding ...

However I had some mental images of that woman on the ladder that were generated by the squirt connotation ... but that's a different story falloff

I guess it's just what the picture implies - a woman shooting milk from her breast from across the room. I know that's not necessarily pornographic, but I also know it's not..modest? Proper to do in public?

I don't know, something just strikes me as adult-oriented about it.

nod

but you have to be able to connect the dots ... and I don't think an average 10 y.o. can do that with this cartoon.

I guess I can sort of see your point in that it's in the comics and maybe kids would read it. It could lead to the child asking questions. But, even if my child asked questions I wouldn't be upset about it. That's because of my opinion that breastfeeding is no big deal.

Speaking of asking questions...my 8 year old asked today how babies were made. omfg I changed the subject and distracted him so I would have time to think of an age appropriate answer. lol He forgot about it but at least now I know I need to think about how to explain this to him should he ask again.

humorous context or not, if you men want to sexualize the harmless act of feeding a kid then that's YOUR issue, not ours fishslap

Tsk. That cartoon was really innocuous. I'm a newspaper editor and I'd totally run it. Fact: People will get offended by ANYTHING. I had a guy yell at me for publishing the word "breasts."

Is it true that all you have to do is hear a baby crying and your mile comes out? I don't mean now but when you're pregnant or breast feeding.
