The Tooth Fairy

So my 6 year old daughter is shedding teeth like crazy these days and of course we have introduced the concept of the Tooth Fairy. The Tooth Fairy has always been a creepy idea for me. Let's see, you got this person/entity going around collecting human teeth in exchange for cash. Where does his/her/it's stock pile of cash come from and what possible use could they have for all of these teeth? I never questioned it as a child, I was just glad to get the money, but now that I'm a parent it's a tad ethically challenging.

Anyway, last night she put her tooth under her pillow and after she went to sleep, I realized that in the whole freaking house, I only had one dollar bill. You see last time she got two so I would I explain that somehow her teeth were being devalued by the Tooth Fairy.

I was planning on going out and getting some ones but then I fell asleep and when I woke up I realized that it was too late to go anywhere and that I would have to put something under the pillow. So I put the dollar there and me and my wife, on the fly, composed a back story of how sometimes the Tooth Fairy give $1.00, $2.00, or $3.00 depending on the time of year. In December, my wife said that the Tooth Fairy doesn't pay as much because kids are eating so many sweets over the holiday. I mentioned, rather unnecessarily, that I had seen something on CNN to that effect just the other night. My wife shut me up before I went into a full explanation of supply side economics and the effects of the housing markets on the teeth retrieval industry.

In the end my daughter, who is not greedy and has saved every dollar we have ever given her for chores and stuff, was just happy that she pulled the tooth out and got paid for it. And next time, I will be more prepared by having some dollars on hand for things like this. It's just one of those moments where I get to see both sides of it now that I'm a parent.

The tooth fairy writes back and forth with my coworker's daughter. But she's 7 now and getting mad at her as she doesn't answer all of the questions she's asked.

Oh, and my niece just got a DVD from the tooth fairy!! I would have preferred the cash when I was her age, but that's just me. shrug

The Tooth Fairy sometimes gets too busy to write...with the whole crafting of the super weapon she is creating made out of human teeth!

I wonder if more kids out there are getting DVDs and stuff. I'm still stuck in old school mode. I guess the Tooth Fairy may have modernized without my notice.

Yeah, remember how funny the Captain was?

Let's see, you've got mild-mannered, henpecked Gotta and well-endowed, hooker loving Captain and Gotta wins.

What kind of crap was that?

A little bit of moisturizer, some sunless tanning lotion, and hair extensions, and we cold turn her into a convincing Donatella Versace lookalike.

Chuck talks a whole bunch of shit, but he can't even save Mike Hucklebee's nomination.

I sense Jackie Chan can give him the Prince-to-Appolonia smack down like in that disturbing seen right after she hands him that girly looking guitar..

Once the tooth fairy forgot to give me my money. I woke up and my friggin' tooth was still under the pillow. mad

So I complained to my dad about it and he told me that I should just look around the house for it because maybe the tooth fairy got confused, Then after 10 minutes of this foolishness, he tells me to look back under my pillow.

The tooth fairy had left me, like, $20 or some ridiculousness. I was so estatic! excited So then when I went back to my mom's house and told her about how the tooth fairy left me $20, she was less than pleased. confused

That was the last time that ever happened. lol

I think, unlike with Santa and the Easter Bunny, most kids figure out the Tooth Fairy isn't real really quickly. Santa and the Easter Bunny bring stuff, that's logical somehow. The Tooth Fairy collects teeth for cash. That doesn't really make sense. But cash is cash so I think most kids are like, "If they want to keep giving me money for teeth, who am I to stop them?"

i was a bit slow when it came to the fantasy stuff...i believed in the tooth fairy until all of my teeth came out. I just wanted to believe that there was this tiny little fairy that came and collected my teeth and left me money.

At my mom's house the tooth fairy was pretty cheap and only gave me a quarter for incisiors and canine and a dollar for molars and pre molars. I think that's what made the tooth fairy more believable. The facade broke a little when I got that $20 bill at dad's house but I really wanted to believe.
