Ex-Moderator | Tomorrow.
It took me an hour and 40 minutes to get home from work tonight (normally a 25 minute drive) cause of the snow and it's not supposed to stop till 6am or so tomorrow. I HATE driving in snow. And I have to go to both jobs tomorrow. |

Monday for sure.
Although for the most part I like my job, if there's any day of the week I struggle with it, it's Monday. Nothing bothers me on Friday. I'm either going out or I'll be getting my daughter. Either way, it's a win/win... so work is much more tolerable on Fridays than Mondays.

playing hookie from work was more fun when i lived alone, though the upside of not playing hookie anymore is that i rack in more PTO and it's better for my karma.
that said, i was a big fan of playing hookie mid-week. it was less obvious, and it chopped the week up for me.

Bad times to call in, based on experience: FYI
Mondays or Fridays.....you're taking a 3 day weekend, unofficially. After management's given you a reprimand....go ahead, and face the music the next day, you'll recover. Be brave. Anytime around Holidays. Too obvious. After you've had a conflict with a co-worker. Hell, let THEM call in! You're no coward! This is based on my working part-time, (that helps) who is sick once a year, and observing those who call in sick all the time. It's the SAME PEOPLE! They stay under the radar of HR policy. They're predictabe, and not fooling anyone. Forgot to mention, when you've asked for the day off, and didn't get it..... or, you've already asked co-workers if they can work for you, unsuccessfully.....management's on to that! It's generally the single, party crowd.....the ones who are drinking at company occasions in the AM. NEVER drink heavy, with management present, unless they're setting the example, in which case, restraint is still in order. Don't distract from the obvious, with your own antics. Not to detract from the topic, but, based on experience (not personally) never French-kiss a co-worker passionately, of the same sex, when you're both wasted and vulnerable and usually hetero. You'll never live it down, with a conservative crowd. STILL! Go in the next Monday, and pretend it never happened, even if people look at you oddly. Just saying. (this actually happened at a celebration in Nogales, where everyone was drinking shots of tequilla) [Edited 12/4/07 21:32pm]

Yeah! Like management doesn't know that. Four days in a month,,,,,holiday season.....you can get away with ONE. Use it wisely, and not Monday or Friday. It's not just management, it's your co-workers, who work extra, to make up for your not being there. Food poisoning, from a fast food place, always works. It's a legit day off , and no one can prove otherwise. And NO! you're not taking Immodium. You'd rather the bug work it's self out! A little nausea and vomiting with the symptoms..... The truth is (as my wife can confirm) I'm not into skipping work. So, with only 3 weeks left, I'll probably lose the days. Hopefully they'll remember that come BONUS time! I can't afford to play hookie from work. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

Definitely Mondays, because I hate them. Mondays is the beginning of another loooong work week. At least on Friday you know that once you get through the day, you have the weekend to look forward too. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

You mean the hours are removed completely? That seems as though employees are encouraged to call in sick. If we have accumulated PTO hours over 300, the employee gets the $$ in December. I always get a pay-out, which is handy before Christmas.

Mine - even though they are good people - sometimes have their head up their you-know-whats. For example, they don't want to sponsor AFLAC (supplemental insurance) because they don't want to "encourage" people to call in sick. ...or waiting until the day before Christmas to give you the Holiday Bonus, so that we don't become "dependant" on it to buy our presents, in case there's a bad year and there are no bonuses. Whatever. I'm thinking that I'm gonna "come down with something" on Wednesday. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!
