I heard that fortunes cookies are not actually the product of the Chinese.
They're american.
And that the fortunes that are held within don't really tell you your fortunes.
And that,
that's why the author credited to them is named "Confucius".
I dunno....
when it comes to the chinese & their ways,
its all greek to me.

Empress

I haven't read all the comments on this thread, so maybe someone else has already said this but.....

I've read several books on this subject and it was done because men found it to be sensual and erotic. A woman who had bound feet was considered a higher-born woman and very attractive. Big feet are not considered attractive by chinese men. I believe the practice was outlawed back in the early 1920's.

The women experienced a great deal of pain from this practice. There bones would break and the bandages were tied even tighter. The entire process usually took 2-3 years. The women got many infections and I've read that the stink coming off their feet from infections was horrible.

I'm glad they no longer do this. It was so unnecessary.
