That's it, I'm moving!!

I HATE WINTER!!!!! pissed

I think I need to go on sabbatical from my job every December and not come back till April. And go to Costa Roca or somewhere warm and nice. Every year I fantasize about it being my last winter in Minneapolis and every summer I fall back in love and forget I ever considered leaving.

Sure, I love the change of seasons. And once in a while when you don't have to go anywhere, it's positively gorgeous to watch the snow fall down while you're bundled up inside drinking cocoa and listening to the radiator hiss.

But when you have to drive in it EVERY SINGLE DAY and it takes you an hour and 40 minutes to drive what usually takes 25 and you think you're going to DIE or worse - be stuck in a ditch for 3 hours waiting for a tow truck - it starts to lose something.

It's gonna be a long, yucky winter, folks.

sigh

I feel for you, Carrie... sometimes I think, weatherwise, I have the best of it in St. Louis. We're pretty much in the middle of the country. Not far enough south to avoid the change of seasons (which I love, autumn being my favorite), but not too far north to have to deal with awful, bitter-cold winters...

Here it is December and I think the coldest it's gotten here so far this season is the low 40's and just a couple of days ago it was 62. We've had no snow at all.

I love winter! I prefer summer, but I still love winter. The beautiful white snow is amazing.
I always say, take advantage of the situation instead of letting it get you down. I take advantage of the snow, by learning how to snowboard and enjoy it. by building snow men, by accepting the clearing of the snow from my path as an excercise, etc.

That would be swell, but the work I do supports Tech Support for Target and if something goes wrong with, say, all the registers in the country, we can't exactly say, sorry, it's a snow day.

I DO plan to bring my laptop home every night now, though, and take advantage of my ability to work from home from time to time.

I love winter. Even though I'm in New York where it still gets cold and snows, it's not the same as where I grew up (Iowa). Here the snow hardly stays on the ground--it melts or gets trucked off to Staten Island. And if it's on the ground for more than a day it turns all gray and dirty and the dogs piss all over it. sad I wish it snowed more here!

PETA 404 File Not Found

Click here to be redirected to PETA.org.
404 Error

We’re sorry! We can’t find that page.
This could have happened for several reasons:

1. The page may be extinct, just as you soon could be, too, if you are still loading your plate with hamburgers, cheese pizzas, and other artery-clogging animal-based foods.

2. The page may have been moved, like animals in circuses, who are hauled around the country in poorly ventilated trailers and boxcars for up to 50 weeks a year in all kinds of extreme weather conditions.

3. You may have made a mistake while typing the address, or we may have made a mistake when creating the link. Mistakes can be corrected. When Anna Wintour got a dead raccoon dumped on her lap by an angry anti-fur protester, she should have learned that wearing the pelts of animals who were cruelly gassed, strangled, or electrocuted is a big mistake. Yet the creepy Cruella continues to push fur in the pages of Vogue.

4. Our Web server may be malfunctioning. When stun guns and “killing machines” in slaughterhouses malfunction, live chickens get dumped into tanks of scalding-hot water (for feather removal) while they are completely conscious, and workers cut the hooves off terrified, conscious cows.

What you can do:

1. You can try again, correcting any misspellings in the address.

2. You can read our Frequently Asked Questions, to see if your question is answered there.

3. You can visit our home page or our Web sites about the following issues:

Vegetarianism
Companion Animals
Fur
Leather
Animal Experiments
Circuses

For a list of all PETA sites, click here.

4. You can go vegetarian. This won’t help you find the link you’re looking for, but it will make you feel better, reduce your risk of debilitating diseases, and help save thousands of animals all at the same time. It will also answer the question, “If we teach our children to be kind to animals, why do we adults still exploit them?”

5. You can do something right now to help the animals who are suffering on factory farms, on fur farms, in circuses, and in laboratories: You can join PETA.

Please visit our site map or search engine if you feel you've reached this page in error.

Tis the reason I moved to San Francisco.

Seiously, it was NYD 1999 and we were driving home from Milwaukee and it was snowing really hard. We get home and park the cars in the lot go in and crash/napped while it continued to storm outside. We awoke to find the entire lot buried under the snow. People were using a cardboard box to dig themselves out.

It had snowed so much that the plows inadvertantly pushed the El (subway) off of it's tracks by an inch, but it broke the train system that went int he direction going to the airport, where I worked. To get to work, I had to walk to the bus in the crappy snow, take bus to the EL station, take the EL to the broken point in the system and then take a shuttle to the airport. This was for almost a month. I called my buddy here in San Fran (who had been asking when I was moving out there) and told him, I was D-O-N-E!

I swear, I am the only person in MN who loves winter! lol I don't like driving in snow, mind you, but I love snowy days and - especially - snowy nights! Being cold isn't so fun but that's why I stay inside so much in the winter. biggrin

Get ready...more snow tomorrow and this weekend! I snapped these yesterday evening, just as the snow was beginning to taper off.

One of the first viral internet phenomena I recall from back in the 90s was this cyber "snowball" created out of text that we used to email around to each other when winter came.

Hope that helps!
