i'm glad she's dealing with the fallout of what comes out of her mouth instead of me. i don't know if i think she's brave or stupid, i'm just glad she's her and i'm not. biggrin

I don't know... to truly be offensive anymore, I think you kinda have to break new ground. And that, she certainly isn't doing. Let's be honest, she's not saying anything that hasn't been said before on stage.. and much better, I might add.

actually, in my sick and twisted way of thinking, you can be thoroughly offensive simply by doing the same old thing and substituting a bunch of dirty language and trash talk for actual wit and humor. when someone has subversive humor or plays with moral boundaries, some people might find that "offensive" and i understand that, but i find it refreshing. shrug

Sarah is sooooo not funny to me! AT.ALL. confused
tho' I battled blind
love is a fate resigned
memories mar my mind
love it is a fate resigned

Over futile odds
and laughed at by the Gods
and now the final frame
Love is a losing game

i think she's a stitch.

then again, i think chris mencia is offensive, and while i don't find them offensive per se, i still don't understand what was supposed to be funny about tim allen and ray romano. was it that they walked funny and made silly voices? was that it? i guess humor is a wildly subjective thing.

Well, that's kinda my point. Is that really offensive? Isn't that what Dave Chappelle did? Lisa Lampanelli is doing what Chappelle does, what Carlin does, what Pryor did, what Bruce did, just without nearly as much wit or insight.

I can't really find that offensive.

I think Sarah's wonderful, although her current season began to lag.

There's a lot intelligence, timing, insight and charm under all of her outrageousness. It's totally subtle and professional while still being raw and controversial. She has actual talent behind the crazy shit she says.

I don't get that from Lisa. She just seems like a big, loud, crass hack to me. shrug

well, i find it offensive if someone is just rattling off a bunch of sensitive topics and volatile words just to get people riled and to grab some publicity and be thought of as "edgy" for its own sake. i really do find that offensive, because it's insulting and it hurts people.

i do think lisa lampanelli can be funny sometimes - i think she's a bit brash and abrasive, but she often seems to have a point to what she's saying. i'll be honest, i can't get into a lot of dave chappelle's stuff either, but i do at least see the intelligence and intent in his comedy.

And I guess that's the difference for me... I don't really see the point to what she's saying most of the time. It does come off as volatile for volatile's sake. And I realize that's some peoples' cup of tea. But I can't say I'm offended by it.

She's kind of a one trick pony and tries too hard.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

i LOATHE carlos mencia. he reminds me of the xenophobic yokels i went to high school with who would call anyone "fag" and "freak" who wasn't exactly like them. screw him. that's not comedy.

If it wasn't for her "shock value" I doubt anyone would really care. It's her schtick...similar to Andrew Dice Clay back when. It got old and he faded away. It's when you don't have a "Schtick" to rely on I think is when you are funny. Or at least if that schtick allows you plenty of room. Lisa's act, like Andrew's and a few others like Emo Phillips or Judy Tenuta in pretty much entirely based on their act.

Comedian(nes) I find funny are

Lewis Black, who's got the angry thing going, but his range in what he talks about is pretty wide. You can be angry about just anything

Or Kathy Griffin...even though she discusses pretty much just celebrities or her family, it's her detailed story telling that makes her funny. It's more than one liners. And the fact that no one is immune by her observations, gives her room for stories.

Another guy, Jim Gaffigan...not sure what his act really is. It's sort of comedic thinkings of the innocuous backed up by his "person who doesn't get his act" personna interjections that cinch it for him.
