Penthouse had scenes from the movie in their magazine and it was the most expensive film of the time$7.00 and it played at Guccione's own Cinema Penthouse East I Believe. Caligula was not the greatest possible movie... the director tried to make a "shocking" movie rather than a good movie. It was not even close to as sexually charged as people claim and it was not really worth watching.

Sure, there were heterosexual rape scenes, gay rape scenes, lesbian acts, homosexual acts, prostitution, group sex, public sex, gay blow jobs, etc., but it really wasn't that shocking.

The only thing that was even remotely interesting about that movie to me was watching Caligula go insane and destroy societal norms.

I have the unrated edition of the movie and have never seen the unedited version.

No, I haven't seen it. For one thing, I always resented "softcore", having spent too many hours as a teen watching them in the hope of seeing something - anything - that was as stimulating as the books I could get my hands on without any problem from a very young age. And of course, the vast majority of softcore movies are preoccupied with female nudity - I can find more homoeroticism in pro wrestling or some old italian Hercules movie.

But I guess I will one day end up checking it out, just to further my pop culture education.

I kind of liked it. Its such a long, slow moving movie tho I have to be in the mood to watch it. The gratuitous porn is too distracting. When I want to watch a porn and get all worked up, I will watch porn. When I want to watch a movie, I watch a movie. When a movie keeps turning into a porno at various moments, my concentration on the story line goes out the door. Its a novelty flick.

I Recommend this movie it's a Classic. Anybody know the Reviews it got in the Newspapers. Can anybody check the Library for the Review? Excellent scenes between the Girls. The magazine had 2 issues with stills also. Guccione's Masterpiece. Caligulia and Malcolm was Gorgous and Ferocious in it. Well, and Helen Mirren Excellent also you forgot to Mention Incest cause Caligulia was fucking his Sister. I wonder just how many Times Prince has watched this Classic. I know he has and probably more than once. The whole Gett Off video and his whole vibe at the time was Roman Orgy and all. And I would say the Little Devil still be having that Lesbian Fantasy. Definitely he be with the Roman Orgy Fantasy.
