The Beach

It's awful that I love this movie, considering (1) Boyle choose fucking DiCaprio over MacGregor, (2) the fact that it's not loyal to the book, and (3) the bulldozing and landscaping of Maya Bay / Ko Phi Phi Le. Thank goodness the tsunamis brought it back to natural state, for the most part.

But yeah, this movie has a very special place in my heart. And the soundtrack is fucking divine. But the movie had horrible reviews and is practically a ghost a mere eight years later.

Oh I love it too.

Its just hard for me to peg the genre of the movie. It's got a born to be wild feel to it, a little bit of a subculture 1960s thing going, and of course, parts of it felt like a music video.

The entire movie was like a dream.

I much prefer the book but the movie is a fun escape.

And it's the beach that Karen, Carrie, and I should see this coming year, it is hoped.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

Battle In Heaven - I have no idea what this movie was about. It had something to do with child-napping and prostitutes in Mexico.

The Saddest Music in the World - I know Anx hates this film, but I thought it was way funny. Isabella Rosellini is a Canadian beer baron that has the smart idea to sponsor a contest for musicians to write and play the saddest song in the world which would get people very depressed and want to drown their sorrows in her beer, driving up sales.

Vampyros Lesbos - I think the title says all you need to know. Except for the fact that it was originally filmed in Spanish, but redubbed in German. hmm The icing on the cake is the very dated groovy, psychedelic soundtrack. Five stars.

But the granddaddy of all weird films is:

Drawing Restraint 9 - As far as I can tell this movie is about a Japanese whale hunting ship that in an effort to reverse its bad karma, invites couples (in this case Björk and boyfriend Matthew Barney) to come onboard and morph into whales through a complex mating ritual. There is also an (un?)related subplot about finding ambergris to be used as an anchor for massive petroleum jelly sculptures. nuts

I've seen this movie twice. The first time was in 1995, and I LOOOOOVED it. Then, last Christmas, my boyfriend bought it for me for Christmas. I'd been looking for it for a long time. I didn't like it as much the second time confused

shelly duvall cracks me up in this movie. best to forget trying to figure out the plot, and just pay attention to her stream-of-consciousness rants, because they're hilarious. i love that in every scene in which she gets in her car, she gets her dress caught in the door. i have no idea what's going on in this movie, but i giggle through it every time i watch it.

If three women made you go "huh?" then try eight! smile

It starts off normal but just keeps getting stranger until the end, where it's derailed almost completely. Francois Ozon never lets you down.
