a deed of love or plain stupid ?
http://edition.cnn.com/20...index.html I would be totally if my significant other would do something like that for me (no pun intented) ... Let it be clear there ARE other solutions but it all depends on where you are, who your doctor is and whether you've thought about it beforehand ... I'd say, let him go.

It is ... I don't know the laws in Italy, but the Vatican being so close, I can imagine they don't have legal euthanasia (sp?) ... This could've happened anywhere people refuse to legalize euthanasia.

I wouldn't be so crazy as to judge someone for their choice. I truly believe you have to be in a situation to say what you'd do. I THINK I wouldn't be able to do it. The thought of taking a life under any circumstances makes me uncomfortable.
If euthanasia were legalized I think it would cause many problems. There are so many questions...where do you draw the line of when it is OK and when it's not? Each family would feel that their case was justified. It's a very sad situation indeed. I feel for the man and his wife.

I've lived in the same house with someone who had Alztheimer's disease and if I ever became half as incapacitated as this person was I would want someone to just kill me. It's a horrible disease to witness and it must be an even more horrible disease to suffer from.

i saw the heading, and couldnt read on any further
i hope they find a cure soon my nan has dementia, which they think may be early onset alzheimers when dad became terminally ill with cancer- i wanted his pain 2 go away- but i didnt want him 2 i still believe euthanasia should be legal, and up 2 the individual and their family 2 decide. it should be an option when all hope is gone, and treatment avenues have been exhausted. but i dont think that i could ever do it seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before

Euthanasia is legal in Belgium, given the fact that YOU have to make the clear choice and ASK the doctor to do it. The doctor has to justify your request and consult a second doctor. There is no way family members can ask for it to be applied to a person in a coma for instance. They also will never do it to a person who only has 'psychological' problems, only in really terminal situations. There are real controls and I think it is a real asset for someone in a terminal situation. On the other hand, there's an organization in Switzerland who does assisted suicide for anyone wanting to do it ... because providing the means to commit suicide is not illegal there. I've seen some docu's on people going there because they're sick and tired of life ... that's plain wrong imho

I do think it is an option that is to be considered. I just personally don't know if I could do it. Like you said it is an individual choice.
