I've worked for several one-person companies, and it always seems to require tiptoeing around their egos. disbelief

Will you keep this in mind when becoming an egomaniacal one woman bitch of a boss? wink

I learned my lesson in graduate school, when the crew on my film revolted because I was such an obsessed egomaniac. redface I really hope I don't end up like that again.

But to be fair, I've spent a lot of energy demonizing my boss so I could get through this separation. But she reacted very positively and with kindness. She said she's going to give me a Christmas bonus that'll make me cry. smile

It is AWESOME that you have the option to freelance. I have zero artistic talent, at least not that I can sell or make a living off of. Wait, does writing count?! lol Anyway, it's amazing that you have the ability and the option to do your thing on your own. I wish you all the best and knowing the absolute genius that lives in your body, I am confident you will succeed MASSIVELY clapping

Thank you. I'm planning to freelance half-time financial services, half-time art/teaching. It would be great if I could do the artistic stuff full time, but that's a tough road.

I feel ya. I would love more than anything to write and counsel full time but I have a feeling I'd struggle so I have to find the balance of my professional paying life and following my heart which probably will never pay the bills nod

I'm finally beginning to accept that balance and I'm much more at peace. Besides, I think the practical foundation will give a lot of energy and support to my creative work. So I'm hoping for a good life. dancing jig

I mean you have no proof she even received that e-mail ... What is needed for an e-mail to be conclusive evidence that you GAVE notice ??

She replied to my email the next day. And I gave her two months notice. It's a pretty informal relationship.

hmm ...well?!?!?!
Don't just keep us in suspense!
Details! Details!
What did she say? Were tears shed? Did fists fly?
Inquiring minds want to know.

...and BTW - a TWO MONTH notice doesn't quite qualify as "quitting". You're more or less "phasing" yourselfaway.

Believe me, you don't want all the details. lol This drama is taking over my BRAIN. Her response was:

i can only hope that it is because of exciting new work you will be
doing.

I look forward to hearing of your next adventure!

and yes, i am deeply sorry to see you leave and wish you would stay.
it
has just been so nice having you around.

see you Monday!

But then the next day she said about six times, I could stay on one day a week and then she gave me a $4/hour raise plus a huge bonus. She is very attached to me. smile

She kept saying how excited she was. Then the second day, she said she was beginning to feel remorse. Interesting choice of words. smile

jobs suck, huh?

It's not that bad, really, I just get so sick of it. I'd get sick of any job, I think. Sitting in the same place with the same people doing the same thing for five years!

I hear ya, I feel the same way.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

clapping clapping Good for you for being able to work for yourself. I would love to be able to do that, and not to have to answer to anyone. Good luck to you, I know you'll be successful.

Thank you! hug I need that kind of support right now, this is so hard. biggrin So far, my freelance business is rapidly prospering. I feel like an equal with the people I work with. More than that, I actually feel incredibly VALUED and it's tons of fun to set my own schedule and work with different various clients. I enjoy it so much more. So I think the decision is a good one.

hug You're welcome. It sounds like you're doing the right thing. I would love to not have a boss breathing down my neck and being able to set my own hours. I admire people who can start their own business and be successful.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
