Hitchcock Films What are your favorite Hitchcock films?
I finally watched Rear Window last weekend and I thought it was superb. Other favorites: The Lady Vanishes, Psycho, Rope... all of his films are excellent! I haven't seen them all yet... but I'm working on it. I am waiting to see Rebecca and The 39 Steps and Strangers on a Train...

We're doing Hitchcock right now in my film class which focuses on the most famous directors (taught by Frank Capra's son, Frank Capra Jr., no less! ) and so far we've watched "Vertigo" and "North by Northwest"...I liked both, especially "Vertigo"! How cool is that movie?
I checked "Rear Window" out last weekend and it was good, but I expected more from what everyone says about it. Oh, and who can forget "The Birds"? I know its wrong of me, but I always laugh when the little kids get attacked in that movie. And "Psycho", too. Speaking of, why in the hell did they remake that? I think its awesome how Hitchcock makes little cameos in his films. It's like playing I Spy or something. He was just such an amazing filmmaker.

It's one of his very early films before he went to Hollywood.

I don't know which one is my favorite, but watching The Birds attack those kids running down the street trying to eat them alive sure was funny. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

You have not experienced Hitchcock until you have seen "Vertigo". It is the greatest movie ever made IMO. I've seen it at least 20 times, yet I get a different perspective on it every time I see it. The only movies that come close to "Vertigo" are "A.I" by Speilberg/Kubrick and also those Tim Burton flicks "Beetlejuice","Batman","Edward Scissorhands", Nightmare Before Christmas" ect. (I thought "Sleepy Hollow" and "Planet Of The Apes" were pretty crap). Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

toejam: I have yet to see Vertigo... Aero and I talked about that movie over a year ago and I still haven't watched it! That'll be the next in line.
Psycho was good, but it wasn't one of my favorites. I think it was built up so much in my mind, that I found myself thinking "that's it?" when it was over. As for "The Birds"...I watched that years and years ago when I was a child... I don't remember much of it except that all of the birds scared the hell out of me. They really should bring back epidodes of"Alfred Hitchcock Presents" on television again. I used to love watching those. I guess I'll be out renting me some Hitchcock soon. What a brilliant man. IceNine: Too many times. The movie is burned into my brain now. Sleepy head.

Holy Cow..."The Birds" was sooo scary! Also, "North by Northwest" is just visually amazing. Azure...have you lived in the Detroit area all of your life? Do you remember the 1 pm Bill Kennedy movies on TV in the early-mid seventies? I'm pretty sure that's where I saw "The Birds" for the first time.

I didn't expect to, because I thought Hitchcock made bloody horror sorts of movies, which I don't much care for. It was great, though, I'll have to rent more. Doves, Mel!ssa

I'm pretty sure that's where I saw "The Birds" for the first time. No, I moved here about 9 years ago. I don't remember the Bill Kennedy movies, but that could be because I was too young. I miss TV in the seventies and eighties... there was this cable channel in the early eighties that played all of the classic horror films.. Frankentsein, Dracula, The Mummy... I miss those. All I can seem to find on television anymore are teen movies being played over and over.

I remember those old horror movies too! Bela Lugosi --wow...he had such an incredible presence. On Sundays here they would show, on local tv, Abbott and Costello movies -- the horror ones were the best - "Abbott and Costello Meet The Mummy", etc. My dad and I would watch them together after breakfast. ahhh...those are nice memories [This message was edited Thu Oct 17 9:54:22 PDT 2002 by applekisses]

My favs:
Marnie Rear Window The Birds Vertigo Rebecca. Hitcock was the master. Although, did anyone see that expose on him on Biography or A&E. Homie was a little freakish. **************************************************
