Hitchcock Films

What are your favorite Hitchcock films?

I finally watched Rear Window last weekend and I thought it was superb. Other favorites: The Lady Vanishes, Psycho, Rope... all of his films are excellent! I haven't seen them all yet... but I'm working on it. I am waiting to see Rebecca and The 39 Steps and Strangers on a Train...

How many times did you watch "Rear Window" while I slept like a lazy prick?

We're doing Hitchcock right now in my film class which focuses on the most famous directors (taught by Frank Capra's son, Frank Capra Jr., no less! eek) and so far we've watched "Vertigo" and "North by Northwest"...I liked both, especially "Vertigo"! How cool is that movie?
I checked "Rear Window" out last weekend and it was good, but I expected more from what everyone says about it.
Oh, and who can forget "The Birds"? I know its wrong of me, but I always laugh when the little kids get attacked in that movie. evillol
And "Psycho", too. Speaking of, why in the hell did they remake that?
I think its awesome how Hitchcock makes little cameos in his films. It's like playing I Spy or something. wink
He was just such an amazing filmmaker.

The 39 Steps, I just saw on television about a month ago. I loved it! It's one of his very early films before he went to Hollywood.

I don't know which one is my favorite, but watching The Birds attack those kids running down the street trying to eat them alive sure was funny.

"Only one can wander, two are always going somewhere"

You have not experienced Hitchcock until you have seen "Vertigo". It is the greatest movie ever made IMO. I've seen it at least 20 times, yet I get a different perspective on it every time I see it. The only movies that come close to "Vertigo" are "A.I" by Speilberg/Kubrick and also those Tim Burton flicks "Beetlejuice","Batman","Edward Scissorhands", Nightmare Before Christmas" ect. (I thought "Sleepy Hollow" and "Planet Of The Apes" were pretty crap).

toejam: I have yet to see Vertigo... Aero and I talked about that movie over a year ago and I still haven't watched it! That'll be the next in line.

Psycho was good, but it wasn't one of my favorites. I think it was built up so much in my mind, that I found myself thinking "that's it?" when it was over.

As for "The Birds"...I watched that years and years ago when I was a child... I don't remember much of it except that all of the birds scared the hell out of me. smile

They really should bring back epidodes of"Alfred Hitchcock Presents" on television again. I used to love watching those.

I guess I'll be out renting me some Hitchcock soon. smile What a brilliant man.

IceNine: Too many times. The movie is burned into my brain now. Sleepy head. smile

Holy Cow..."The Birds" was sooo scary! Also, "North by Northwest" is just visually amazing.
Azure...have you lived in the Detroit area all of your life? Do you remember the 1 pm Bill Kennedy movies on TV in the early-mid seventies? I'm pretty sure that's where I saw "The Birds" for the first time.

I finally saw Rear Window the other day, I loved it! I didn't expect to, because I thought Hitchcock made bloody horror sorts of movies, which I don't much care for. It was great, though, I'll have to rent more.

Check the list that I posted above and watch all of them other than Psycho and The Birds... you will not be disappointed... they are not horror films.

They are all very good!

No, I moved here about 9 years ago. I don't remember the Bill Kennedy movies, but that could be because I was too young.

I miss TV in the seventies and eighties... there was this cable channel in the early eighties that played all of the classic horror films.. Frankentsein, Dracula, The Mummy... I miss those. All I can seem to find on television anymore are teen movies being played over and over.

I think Bill Kennedy was a local guy -- I could be mistaken -- but, that may be why you don't remember him.
I remember those old horror movies too! Bela Lugosi --wow...he had such an incredible presence. On Sundays here they would show, on local tv, Abbott and Costello movies -- the horror ones were the best - "Abbott and Costello Meet The Mummy", etc. My dad and I would watch them together after breakfast. smile ahhh...those are nice memories smile

Hitcock was the master. Although, did anyone see that expose on him on Biography or A&E.

Homie was a little freakish.
