This subject could not be closer to my life if it tried.
When I was 17, I got pregnant with my son Angel. My boyfriend (now husband) was 21, our very Catholic Mother's had fits and said that we must get married right away "to make things right". We married 23 days before our son was born. We have now been married 24 years and counting and could not be happier. Our son is now 24, graduated with honors from California Polytechnic University, he majored in Journalism. He was offered a job and hired by The Santa Barbara NewsPress, the largest paper in Santa Barbara, 3 weeks after graduation. He is a successful young man, he is my shining star.

Good for you and your son! hug See not all teen parents are bad parents. It's not an easy road to take, but you and your husband did what you could..and look at your boy! biggrin

The teacher made a mistake by saying "all" but it really isn't far from the truth when a young person finds themselves losing out on their freedom, their childhood and their life. Resentment is a real issue most people just don't talk about. And it's true that most teen parents education is very affected by being a parent at such a young age. Many don't recover and spin off into poverty and struggle and pass that same baton to their children..

I think it's really important to discuss and explore those issues nod

I so agree, I just think now that the school system here, picked the wrong program in doing this.

Wow I can't believe it was the school that chose this program disbelief

I can't either...the teacher told me about the DVD they watched..and how negative it all was. Trust me..they will be hearing from me! There is a better way to teach the downfalls of teen pregnancy!

When my nephews start complaining about having to watch or hold their baby sister, especially if she starts crying I tell them to imagine doing it for 24 hours a day for the next 18 years. They go eek Wrap it up boys! lol

This is a wonderful story but a pregnancy is a lousy reason to get married if the two people don't really even know each other and especially if they don't get along in general.

We knew each other, and we had dated for a year, I never said we did not like each other in general?
I would never recommend this to anyone to do. But I was just stating that it can work out. It was REALLY hard finacially, we both worked two jobs for awhile while my Mom took care of our son. God bless her. We had rough times, but those rough times are what made my son the man he is today. He remembers how hard his parents worked to give him a nice life. 10 years later, we started having our girls, we now have 3 girls in the family, and Angel always remembers the hard times and appreciates how far our family has come.

Co-sign. nod I knew a girl who got pregnant at age 17, and married the guy who got her pregnant about 5 months before their first child was born. 26 years later, they are still married, and also had 2 more children. So not all teen pregnancies/marriages are disastrous. It's not easy, but with the right maturity and committment, it CAN work. biggrin
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

That is so wrong!!!!!

I'm glad you got in touch with the teacher. Scare tactic teaching is not effective IMO.

I'm talking about 2 people who fucked all of three times and the parents expect them to commit to a life together. A year is basically a relationship nod
