Do you mean what you say?????

My dad, told me something that has been hovering around my brain.

"People mean what they say," and whereas, yeah, I understood what he was saying, I became concerned because,

I have to make a concious effort to do the same. Meaning what I say isn't easy, Nor is knowing what people mean.....

I listened to Prince music for years and sometimes, I can hear him laughing, but most of the time i hear him teaching.....maybe that doesn't matter but for his music to mean something to me????? idk

Now that I'm older, I realize I have to "take responsiblity " for "my" actions and for me that is easier said than done, because genuinely I think I'm stupid about nothing most of the time.

Moreover, you may think I'm stupid and express that to me.....and then we fight.

Am I doomed?????
Will I forever be ridiculed and laughed at for being stupid, not getting the point?????

Send me a guy with some glasses, that sorta looks like prince.....

oh and dancewme, don't come over here diseccting my rant .....lol

biggrin I know what you mean. It's easy to be misunderstood. People have different ways of expressing themselves and the interpretation is left to the reciver of any information. Without deliberate dialogue used to dispel ignorance and assumptions, there's going to be lots of misunderstandings. And unfortunately some misunderstanding can linger for a very long time and might never to be resolved unless people care to talk about it.

For the most part, yes, people mean what they say.
And even if they don't, we can only take them at their word, until they've proven their word to be untrustworthy.

Unless someone is selling you something, and then it's another story. lol

I always mean what I say...where problems arise with me is when people disregard what I say and try to determine what it is I'm really saying lol lol...

I'm a very literal person, so there is rarely any "reading-between-the-lines" necessary. If I think you're a jerk, I'll call you a jerk. If I didn't call you a jerk or even use the word "jerk", then I don't think you are. Simple. I don't say things to be "nice", I definitely don't say things to be mean, and I crave to be understood by those who mean anything to me...so 99.9% of the time I will mean exactly what I say.

Unfortunately I assume everyone else means exactly what they say as well, and confusion and chaos results lol confused...

I mean what I say, but I'm not always wise enough to say what I mean. It's sometimes challenging to speak up or be perfectly articulate.
