the Joker has always been written best as a complete homicidal maniac. Killing Joke, Dark Knight kinda crazy. Burton's was cool, but campy. I'm excited to see a good spin on him in the new flick.

Yep. With all due respect to Jack, Nolan's Joker will be closer to the comic version.

Jack's joker was pretty damn close. Read "Death In The Family". Pretty close to me...
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

I really dislike this look for the Joker... All I can think of is Tiny Tim in really grotesque clown make_up.

That will always be Jack Nicholson in Joker make up, which aint necessarily a bad thing, but that movie pretty much sucked.

talk to the hand

just cause the movie didn't please the comic geeks whom never can agree on what's a "true" interpretation of their teen comic book wet dream doesn't mean the movie sucked...

for many of us who are willing to accept film is a totally different medium and doesn't have to stroke the cock of the comic book, Batman rocked!! headbang

as long as they don't make him TOO gritty and realistic, it should be cool. i thought the first "batman begins" movie tried to be so gritty and "real" that it sucked the fun out of the characters.

agreed....i've tried watching it three times and it just doesn't do it for *me*...

It didn't suck - it was good for its time, but it wasn't THE definitive Batman. Nolan's version is closer to what Batman's supposed to be. The grim, realistic aproach is the way to go.

say's who? comic book geeks? far more people went and saw Burton's Batman....i would guess that for many of them Burton's Batman is the definitive Batman.

it's interesting how much sway geeks have over films these days...broadway buffs don't get the same attention when musicals are turned into films...Burton's Sweeny Todd is a perfect example. Purist are swooning over the film despite all the liberties and changes Burton has made...

I think it sucks as a film, except for Jack and the visual style, so says me. There's a million things wrong with that movie and not ONE of them is that it wasn't faithful to the comics.

It's interesting that you think anyone interested in these movies or who think that "Batman" pretty much sucked is a comic book geek.

...far more people went and saw Burton's Batman....i would guess that for many of them Burton's Batman is the definitive Batman.

Far more people saw "Fred Clause" this year than "Hott Fuzz" so it must be funnier. "Fred Clause" is the 34th "best" movie this year.

I think I'll write a review of "Batman" and post it in this thread.

i prefer cesar romero to both of em.

My favourite will always be the version of the Joker that appeared in B:TAS.

I love Jack Nicholson as the Joker. But let's be honest, he was just doing Jack Nicholson in grease paint and a prosthetic. It did not capture the dreanged menace of the character AT ALL.

I'm looking forward to this.

In some senses the Jokers often portrayed as dark AND camp too , when he shot Barbara Gordon in the spine in the Killing Joke he was wearing a hawaiian shirt and beach shorts after all razz
