My mum (May she rest in peace) used to make a massive batch of Carribean black cake starting in Nov.
I remember the smell of The Rum & Port soaked mixed fruits jar being open for the first time in months.... I always sneaked a mouthful before she could add it into the cake mix.. Man..... i'd sleep for days.....  One minute they want peace……

My home smells of nothing more than incense and candles.
But... I do have some fresh made tamales in the frig. My sister just brought them to me and put them in the frig. I miss the smell of tamales steaming while they cook... and turkey baking in the early morning, way before it is time to wake up. | |
