NBA Preseason - The Battle of the Williams

Grizzlies' Williams Wins Name Game

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Oct. 19 (Ticker) -- Jason Williams outplayed his point guard namesake with 27 points and eight assists as the Memphis Grizzlies coasted to a 123-99 preseason victory over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.

Bulls rookie Jay Williams, known as Jason during his days at Duke, collected 19 points and four assists.

Jason Williams scored 10 points early as the Grizzlies jumped out to a 15-5 lead. Memphis closed the first half with a 7-2 spurt to open a 61-48 lead.

The Grizzlies opened the third quarter by hitting eight of their first nine shots. Jason Williams capped the run with a 3-pointer to widen the advantage to 72-53.

Memphis rookie guard Gordan Giricek left the game in the second quarter with a sprained left hip. Chicago veteran swingman Jalen Rose also was forced to depart in the second with a sore right knee.

Eddy Curry scored 27 points for the Bulls.

(Shane Battier added 12 for Memphis)

Well, it's at least refreshing to see Memphis win a game. biggrin Perhaps they'll do a bit better this year.

I also hope that lame asshole JAY Williams gets his ass kicked all year long by EVERYBODY. smile

Portland is looking REALLY good so far. I know it's only the preseason, but I can dream, can't I?

Of course you can! biggrin

I don't care much about Portland, personally, but I'd like to see ANYBODY do better than the Lakers. It's time for someone new to be on top. It's getting stale.

You can dream of Portland, as I can of Memphis. wink

Indeed. I have advertised it greatly that the Lakers are my least favorite sports franchise ever. biggrin They'll probably win again this year, though.

Well, you and me both. I hate their players, and I hate their coach. And I know Supernova is going to come around and kick our butts for this!

For that matter, I hate most of the NBA these days. A bunch of whiney old hacks wink There's no heart in NBA basketball. Just a bunch of overpayed assholes. Most of them deserve no respect. smile

Laker haters in this house! If you see them point them out! wink

Big Laker fan here. Bigger Piston fan though. I will say that the Pistons did some strange posturing for next year's salary and draft by letting Stackhouse head out.

It should be interesting for the Wizards, as Stackhouse is a very potent offensive player and has been sharpening his assist game and defense.

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another

Battier: evil!!!

Moonie: evil!!!

Battier: It should be very interesting what a genius (and I don't use that word lightly) like Jerry West does with the Grizzlies. I hated the fact that he left the Lakers, and I don't like the fact that he had to leave disbelief evil It was the only organization he ever worked for in his adult life. One thing he doesn't have with the Grizzlies though; as much money to deal with as he usually is allowed to sign players with.

Moonie: I don't know what type of moves the Trailblazers have made during the off-season but according to one fan I know they've improved. All things being equal (sans the dreaded "i" word), it should be an exciting year.

Indeed. I'd like to see my Blazers get 50 wins again. Regardless of their playoff woes, the Blazers HAVE made the playoffs an incredible 20 years in a row. That in itself says something. biggrin
