My most favorite recent movie-going experience was on Halloween:

The Last Man On Earth

and before that it was

Le Doulos directed by Jean-Pierre Melville

and before that it was

The Wind Will Carry Us directed by Abbas Kiorastami

That's a Gregg Araki film, right? I've seen Nowhere, The Doom Generation and one more where the title escapes me. They were all a bit too over the top for my taste but dazzling nonetheless. I've heard that Mysterious Skin is moe subdued and that's probably for the better.

Gregg Araki, yes. I've not seen his other films, but based on reviews I've read I suspect my reaction to his other work would be similar to yours - though I'll probably still check out a few of his other films now anyway, just because I'm curious.

Mysterious Skin - again, well, what a film. It's disturbing and painful to watch at points but then, its subject matter is disturbing and painful. Yet, even the harshest, ugliest scenes never become gratuitous, but rather are handled quite sensitively.

It really is an intense, haunting film.

I read the book, and started to watch the film on movie links but it stopped a third of the way in pissed I do want to see the whole thing. I loved Doom Generation for what it was falloff but mysterious skin is a whole other kettle of fish cry

Went to the flicks to see Death At A Funeral today.
I loved it. Very funny British story that has a cliched plot, but some great jokes and great acting.
I urge EVERYONE to see it!

Agreed! Not least for the inclusion of 'Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want' at the end.

I notice your Mozza quote- he's coming back to UK for a handful of dates in January- yay! Been almost a year since I've seen him in the flesh- i need a fix.

If any of you's like The Princes Bride, then you will all love Stardust. Hunky lead actor, and just the fun to see DeNiro prance about in a dress and make-up

I wish they would've used the original but being the geek that I am, I watched the entire movie over with commentary and they mentioned why they didn't. They wanted to make the end look like Shaun was moving on so they used a more modern version.

I wish I could see Morrissey in England. sad

I thought Sunrise was really good. 30 Days Of Night was good. No Country For Old Men was good but I left it feeling annoyed for some reason. I'll have to watch it on video and see what I think the second time.

But Sunrise was definitely a beautiful movie!
America's political system used to be about the "pursuit of happiness." Now more and more of us want to stop chasing it and have it delivered.

Thanks for that nugget- there's absolutely no excuse for not using Moz's incredible vocals though. You've had our Man over with you all year- you can have Prince on loan & we'll welcome Morrissey back with open arms! He's gonna Come Back to Camden. Saw him in Manchester last Christmas which was quite incredible. Speaking of being a geek, Moz indirectly introduced me to many wonderful Brit films of the 60's- Saturday Night Sunday Morning, Taste of Honey etc. ('Remembers this is a film thread')

I saw The Darjeeling Limited and American Gangster recently, those were nice.

And I think I'm going to see the new Ian Curtis biopic this weekend.

We went to see Control last night. Fantastic movie. British, black and white, covers the (short) life of Ian Curtis of Joy Division. Captures 70s Britain very well and is also quite moving. And funny. Tears brimming at the end.

Also recently watched Pan's Labyrinth again. If you haven't seen it please go and rent it. It's a must. Wonderful acting, wonderful story, wonderful direction.

Many other Orgers seen Requiem for a Dream? Or on a funnier note Grindhouse? That'll be the double bill from Rodriguez and Tarantino. Breath of fresh air in an often stale genre.

I just read your post having just posted smile Tell me your thoughts on Tony Wilson if you've seen 24 Hour Party People (I've just read something that adds lots of meat to my boney thoughts too). I couldn't help but think one thing. And hopefully you'll enjoy the movie too.

Really? I read the short story a loooong time ago, and the ending of the movie was COMPLETELY different.

It was depressing.

Vet du nån som vill hyra en 2:a i Skarpnäck i 2:a hand? biggrin
