Anime! What is your favorite series? Do you think Japanese animation is better than American animation? "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Ahhh Anime. *takes a deep satisfied sigh*
This is my territory right hurr. This series right here was one of many that literally stole my heart. My favorite characters are Jet and Faye. I listen to the soundtracks like crazy, get misty eyed when the last episode's song plays....heh. The show just fits my mood sometimes. This technically is the first anime that got me hooked on anything else. Despite the fact that I pretty much saw the entired series dubbed and on CN (back in the day when Toonami was the shiiiiit!!!) I still loved it dearly. I seriously was a fan of Sailor Jupiter. This pretty little darlin' named Sakura was yet another dubbed anime that I got hooked on thanks to the WB. I was blessed to have the chance to see the full version years later alongside with the movies and such. I know it may be silly of me, but.....I want to name my first daughter Sakura not so much for the anime character here (or Naruto...uck) but because of the beauty of the flower and how delicate and sweet smelling it is. I risked feeling tired in school the next day to watch this show on the Midnite Run on CN. Despite the heavy political stance of this show, I got it. I crushed on Duo Maxwell, drooled over Trowa and Quatre...*sigh* good times....good times. This was the show that got me hooked on singing the ending songs to every anime I could. The two ending songs of this show were incredibly beautiful. This show tickles my outer space fantasy complex to the core. I tried so hard to draw comics as tribute to the show...heh....failed every time but it was still hella fun. I haven't seen all the episodes yet. I'm still going thru them. I have seen the movies and am currently reading the manga, though. It has to be the funniest anime I've seen yet. The mix of martial arts and physical comedy are right up my alley! The Tenchi series that I've seen so far. (Muyo, In Tokyo, Universe) I know there's more but it would be hard on my wallet at the moment to seek 'em out. Nevertheless, this is a series I love watching. I miss it being on TV where I can get it, but hey....that's how it is with anime. It's gone once the agreement timetable is up. That's all I can think of at the moment. There's tons more but my brain is friiiied right now.

I recommend these four relatively recent animes: Akagi, Kaiji (just began and is on its 6th episode), Monster and "Death Note". They're all quite psychological and be warned... they aren't really "happy"... you won't get many funny moments in these...
As far as anime vs. american animation... got to give it to anime generally.... much greater variety of stories... I like the continuity/long stories in Japan vs the episodic style in the US.

Tetsuo turns into a new universe... what you see at the end during the credits is a big bang. Tetsuo is this new universe. If he'd stayed around, Tetsuo/new universe would have been born and annihilated the existing universe.
