Did you ever run away from home? I hope this isn't in bad taste following an Orgers' ordeal of her child missing from home.
On the contrary, I wanted to raise awareness. Did you ever run away from home, and what where the reasons, no matter how small or silly, they may be. Has your child, relative ever run away from home? I am hoping from these answers we can find reasons and clues as to why we did it and why they do it. Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday.

Ex-Moderator | Nope.
I remember my brother talking about it when we were kids once in a while. But he never did it and I didn't either. I did move out on my own as soon as I was 18, though. |

I was very angry once as a child and ran from home, although I didn't get far and came back before dark. As irrelevant as that may seem, and the fact I came from a loving family, I know a friend ran away from home, more or less the same age as me and she didn't want her parents to find her. Luckily she went to her best friends home, and after alot of talks and reasonings she went back to her home. It isn't always so easy though and I wish the world was so much simpler that this would never happen. Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday.

no way. we lived in the middle of the sticks so there was really nowhere to run away to. plus, i was getting three squares and a roof, plus all the star wars toys i could ask for. even when i was fuming at my mom, i knew a good deal when i was soaking in it!
we had some woods behind the house where i grew up, so if i ever got REALLY upset, i'd go stomp off into the trees and sulk a while.

Every year I would plan a great escape. It was usually the dead of winter in Minnesota, so that dampened my ambition a bit. I would vow to take off in the Spring when the weather got better and then when that time came around, I sort of forgot about it. I did run off once to the forest nearby and sat in the rain contemplating my hellish existence. That lasted like an hour, then I went home. At least I had my mom concerned so that was good.

yes I did. My mother and I never got along. Once when I was 12 I ran away. I lasted about 2 hours. I got lost and asked some lady on the street for money to call my dad to come get me.
he was majorly pissed but he knew what kind of person my mother was at that time.

What age were you? Oh, I think it lasted somewhere between ages 7 and 13. I loved my parents, but they fought all the time and it was utter hell. I wanted OUT. Oh yeah, when I was 13, I ran away one night in the summer and tried sleeping in the schoolyard. It was really uncomfortable and there were some older teenage boys smoking pot in the bushes, so I eventually went home. I don't remember my parents ever noticing actually, except for the time I went in the rain.

Once, when I was 7. But I stayed within a 100 yd radius of the house, then came home, where I got a whoopin....never did it again.
My kids never ran away. Their friends, who needed a place to stay, stayed at our house. Not because of conflicts with family, just parents gone, didn't want to be at home alone, etc.... our door is always open.

Yes I did run away from home, a few times! I left because my Mother was an abusive woman, emotional and physical!
I was picked up by cops, put in run away shelters, and foster homes. Sadly each time my Mother was portrayed as the victim. I wasn't running because I wanted to do what I wanted...I ran because I never felt like I was wanted. Kids run away for all kinds of reasons, but each one of those reasons should be taken serious. Running away from home is a scary, dangerous thing! For both the child and the parent! Proud Memaw to Seyhan Olivia Christine ,Zoey Cirilo Jaylee & Ellie Abigail Lillian

Yes...
I ran away to my front porch. I made a tent with a blanket and two lawn chairs. Then it started to get dark. I got hungry. And I went "home."

[/quote:bf2c9842af] The "three bloody fingers in the basement" you remember????? there's variations.....the child is sent to the basement to get a jar of pickles by grandma, and there's 3 bloody fingers that chase her up the stairs..... she tells her grandma, who sends her back down the stairs for another jar of something.....again and again and again.... Who came up with that stuff? No one ever wanted to go to the basement alone.

no. I wanted to.
But there was no where to run to but corn and bean fields. I always hoped and prayed I'd be left at the mall and some other parents would take me home.

I never ran away from home. I never had a reason to. Like Anx, I realized that I had it pretty good and running away never entered my mind. I had an outstanding relationship with my parents that continues to this day.
I had a friend in high school who ran away 2 or 3 times a year, every year, over a period of about three years. And because he did it so often (and always ended up coming back), people tended to write it off as him being a drama queen when the fact is his father was kicking his ass on the regular. And his enabling mother wrote it off as tough love when often my friend would show up with deep bruises and welts on many parts of his body. He ran away as a show of attention. Hoping that his father would miss him enough, or worry enough that he'd never want to force him to run again. But most often, when he came back home it just resulted in another ass-kicking. One day he quietly left for good. I heard from someone that he was slumming around Phoenix... That dude never had a chance.
